Santo Domingo.- After his electoral win Danilo Medina’s main goal is a wide reaching pact with Dominican Republic’s opposition party, PRD, for which he invited its defeated ex candidate Hipólito Mejía to work together and solve the problems which all sectors must deal with to reach progress, development and the nation’s transformation.

The president elect said his proposal implies a commitment to support education, tourism, an integral tax reform and the electrical sector, as well as attract foreign investment and support the productive sectors such as agro, free zones, industries and small and medium companies, with whom he’ll seek a pact to expand the internal market.

He reiterated that he’ll also seek for a free trace pact with Haiti, the country’s top trade partner.

In his first statements as president elect before thousands of members of the ruling PLD party, Medina reiterated his campaign promises to benefit youngsters, women, children and the elderly through projects which reach those sectors directly. “I want well trained; educated young people, but at the same time know that the sacrifice to educate has a reward, because there’s a Government which can guarantee a place in the economy because I don’t want to see diplomas and in the street.”

Basta, have another Blunt.

Josey is fightin' for his money as we speak.

The Hippo is assuredly par for the course in terms of Egomaniacs that have governed our nation. What a terrible lack of comportment on his part. So he's recounting Votes! You lost the Election and many governments are calling in to congratulate the victor Danilo Medina of the PLD.

Except that the Hippo has refused to end his futile search for challenging the results.

I just hope Danilo's gesture hides a fist of steel in it. This cartoon character El Hippo needs to go back to the farm with the goats, chickens and swine; he fits in perfectly. And Josean can help take care of him while collecting Hippo dung for payments due.

Could this be a reason for why Mr. Medina is reaching out to his rival?

The Dominican Revolutionary Party in the national elections held its position of being the political organization with more voters. It is followed by the Dominican Liberation Party, which won the elections thanks to contributions from its allies.

The numbers presented by the Central Electoral Board indicated that while the PRD increased its vote, the PLD’s was reduced.

It seems to me that the Dominican PRD is like our Democratic Party in the United States although having the most registered voters often it can't win elections. The PLD is like the Republican Party although smaller it has more money and somehow manages to win.

Is this a fair analogy?

Molondron - there was a determined vote against Hippo and a btter candidate would have won it for the PRD.

If they are to succeed at the next election when the economic climate will be much much better, they will have to reinvent themselves with new younger brighter leadership with a cleear and sensible economic platform.

In difficult times a government of national unity is good. Maybe papa could be be minister of agriculture or space exploration or something.

In the campo when a hard headed burro refuses to cross a shallow stream, the farmer goes and gets a few dry branches, lights them up and goes behind the burro......before he places the fire in his ass the burro starts walking hurriedly and crosses the stream.
Medina is a class act and is trying to deal with inept burro bufoon's on the same level, let him be, this burro is demonstrating, what a sore loser he is, hermano "de la que nos salvamos" phoooey!

I believe Josean is getting acquainted with the metro route! Lmao

Good luck DR. The better of two evils won! Cool heads prevailed, and I hope they will take this opportunity to build for the people and not just for their own financial portfolio.

Education, opportunities for all, war on corruption and drugs, better legislated controls and PLEASE a cap on, and total transparency on political campaign spendings. THIS MADE ME SICK!

Hippo can go and see his cartel friends in Mexico for a job!

Long live the DR!!!

I am not a Dominicano. I am a Canadian. But I love your Country. In speaking with many of the people on my last visit. And I am mean some pf the poorest people from up in the mountains, they were very supportive and trusting of Danillo and are certainly rejoicing in his victory. I hope that their optimism is not misplaced.
However what really shocked me was the huge sums of money that must have been spent by Danillo on his presidential campaign. My questions are; Who donated so much money? Please be specific. Who is Danillo now beholden to?
Whatever the answer, I am sure that at the vvery least you ended up with the lesser of two evils. But hopefully something more- an actual good.

The most important thing that Danilo won't be able to do like his predecessor couldn't do either, is to control the outrageous corruption by his party members that feel entitled to rape, pillage and plunder the spoils of war after their victory. Just like any General who can't control his troops who feel entitled as new "untouchable leaders" in war. We can expect 4 - 8 more years of uncontrolled out right theft of public monies and inside deals that screw the people of a fair bidding process. The police, government and judicial system also continues to suffer from a party too long in power because of cronyism. So again I say a victory for Danilo is nothing but a loss for the People and would have been no different of a loss with Hipolito who failed to convince the people that he was going to be any better, because everyone knew he too would have to allow his troops to feed uncontrollably at the trough. So the misery continues and there is no celebration for the people of the DR.

MOLONDRON; Your analogy does not apply to US presidential elections. Because of the corrupt, antique, fake elitist Electoral College, humans do not get to vote directly for the president. Whoever wins the majority of votes in a state then gets every Electpral vote from that state. Since 50 percent of my state always votes for the hatewing, no Democratic ever gets to vote for a Democratic president. This is how someone like Georg Bushkov could win the election but have fewer popular votes. It is very rare when a candidate like Obama wins both the electoral college votes and the popular votes.
