Zoom Picture

Santo Domingo.- The ex presidential candidate of Dominican Republic’s major opposition party (PRD) yesterday said he’s still tallying the affidavits sent Sunday by the polling places to compare them with those from the PRD delegates, prior to issuing a statement.

Hipólito Mejía said once that process concludes, he will state his position regarding the Central Electoral Board’s (JCE) declaring that ruling PLD ex candidate Danilo Medina the winner with 51.24% of the votes.

The ex-president spoke to reporters at his campaign headquarters in the Naco sector, and pledged to “fulfill his commitment with the press.”

We must not forget that it takes time for "el burro" and his fellow travelers to add the affidavits, since they have to use their fingers, and considering there are 14,000 affidavits, they have to get other people to help, and take their shoes off as well so they can count their toes!!!!!!!

Generoso,

Miguel Vargas wants to help in the counting. Think El Hippo will allow him?

I'm no fan of either party, but in choosing between the lesser of two evils, the PLD is the lesser evil. Mejia is a joke, he was an embarrassment as a president, the election shouldn't even have been this close considering what his party done to the country when he was president.

@Manny Tav Thank you, you my friend just said what I have been saying since Mejia "beat" Vargas. A joke internationally. Never have a seen a president openly laughed at by presidents of other nations when he was representing the DR at an international convention. An utter embarrassment. He needs to disappear into the abyss.

Why can't this man show a little class and bow out gracefully. He might be remembered as a statesman but noo je wants to drag this out and the world is watching how Banana Republic politics are being played out. I love the Dominican Republic, the birthplace of my grandparents but unfortunately she still has a long way to go.

Isnt it his right to have a double check? If you lost by a small difference wouldnt you want to double check, just to calm your mind and suspicions when so much was in the balance...especially when the winners are known to be beyond CORRUPT and without shame?

Screw you, and let him count all he wants, he has good reason to....then judge him on what he does after.

@Junglemonkey. When you lose by that margin, you concede. It's not in the small percentages to allow a recount or wait for all ballots to come in. The laws of probability have determined that he cannot win. That's called mathematics my friend. He should bow out gracefully and call for the country to respect it's new president. That is what a statesman would do.

and to think that because of greed his party is 4 more years and who knows maybe more if danilo does it well on the oposition.
He fraudulently took over and what goes around comes around.
I am convinced that the PRD would have won if hipolito pph was not its candidate... most of those votes for pld where for hatred/fear to hipolito, and still it was close...
But he lost and he should just give up and let it be so we can move on with our lives

@circibana
the law of probablilities as you call it relies on equal chances for all outcomes....not weighted dice...this then has nothing to do with the laws of probabilities when corruption and the ability to alter results is possible.

that is mathematics.

a 5% margin is small considering the parties do not need to be 50/50 inorder to justify a recount or revote....

like i said before....let the hippo count then judge him on what he does after

UPDATE: he counted and graciously stepped back, instead of causing chaos
