Santo Domingo.- The European Union on Wednesday affirmed it will continue providing its aid to cooperate the development of the countries in need despite the crisis affecting several Eurozone nations.
The ambassador of that economic bloc, Irene Horejs said the European Union won’t halt any of its cooperation commitments signed with beneficiary countries and instead announced investments of 280.1 million euros in the Dominican Republic until 2013.
She said of that amount several programs totaling 175.7 million euros are already underway and EU$104.4 million in other projects pending.
Horejs cautioned however that the approval of funds depends more on the country’s stability than that of the Eurozone. “We’re in crisis but the solidarity of the European Union is not in danger.”
the diplomat was interviewed by the Communications Corripio Group, accompanied by EU Policy Section chief Maria Antonia Clavo, Trade official Satchenka Encarnacion and Press director Jonathan Pitts.

mmmm I find this all very strange and fling in the face of others commenting on how well this country is doing,, all the great malls going up and millions sent on lavish hotels ...etc etc... But we still receive more and more in aid from the EU and other countries??
It just high lights the disparity of the well off and the politicians here and their unwillingness to put back into the country that has given them everything..

still here ,,,I have written here for many years that Latin countries have no sense of Noblesse Oblige even in the modern sense whereas the European countries , France, Germany ,Scandanavia , England and Holland to name a few have a great principle of assisting others less fortunate than them selves.

All those Projects are most welcome and when Danilo wins many more are coming, we will make DR a country of High Standards and El Burro will not be part of it (!)

I'm not saying there is not charity here but I will say that the charity comes only with publicity.
That is not charity that's PR..
I was privileged to meet an certain high profile personality here (now past on) that on the outside looked to be a very charitable. But with a clear view one could see the hypocrisy of the charity that only came with media coverage of the act of charity.. While amassing vast wealth, still paying the house keeper and all other employees bear minimum wage or below.

still here ,,,that is very common here in the DR and in the USA where assistance is only rendered when there is a benefit to the giver ,,, may be a tax break etc

danny00,
You are right about the 3/4 million into the USA a year. How about breaking it down to prefered
immigration such as those from the Brittish Empire and Northern Europe as well as Eastern Europe, that eats up more than 90% of the allocated quota of permanent residents.
Argentina and N.Ireland were given prefered allocation ,because they know Argentina as well as
Northern Irland do not emmigrate . As for the rest of the Latin American countries they get very
little .One of the reasons they are forced to emmigrate illegaly. Another reason is the poor standard of living as well as insecurity by their own gvts do not provide for them. A good example are the 12.5 millions illigal Mexicans as well as the rest from Central America ,not counting the
Cubans that came in by the millions, under (political refugees program)assylum, offered to them exclusively and not to the Central Americans when president Reagan had his

oppression by their leaders, nevetheless the victim's families never got Political Assylum in the USA as the Cubans did,or the Eastern Europeans did after the fall of the USSR.
But above all there is no country as good as this one. Not because they tell me so but i have travelled and have seen with my own eyes and have compared.
What am agaist is the enequity of the immigraton system ,legal or illegal, who are lookking for work the doors are closed for them just because they are Mexicans.Who the hell is going to pick
the tomatos or vegetables in general at the cost the illegals are getting? The Afro-Americans or the DR or PR are not going to do it ,they raher be on wellfare . The only nationality would be the Haitians and they rather stay in DR.
