Santo Domingo.- Dozens of women mostly domestic workers railed against the candidate of Dominican Republic’s major opposition party (PRD) Hipólito Mejía’s statement last week that “maids steal the fillets from their bosses’ homes to give them to their boyfriends.”

“We are not thieves," the women chanted in Enriquillo Park in the capital’s Villa Francisca sector, calling Mejia’s statement to illustrate corruption in a rally a mistake.

Group spokeswoman Margarita Sandoval, quoted by diariolibre.com in s, said domestic workers "don’t steal for their sugar daddies" because most of them are single and mothers.

How many times can someone continually shoot themselves in the foot before no one take him seriously anymore... Is this truly the why he thinks...
He opens his mouth and all his aides must just cringe and wounder what mess they have to try and reword this time...

This PURPLE funded "PROTEST" was a lame effort to counteract this SIGNIFICANT ENDORSEMENT:

"Hipólito Mejía is supported by the Association of Domestic Workers"

"The Pact provides for creating a training program through the Technical Institute for Professional Training (INFOTEP) of female and female domestic workers"

"The entity and the PRD's candidate signed an agreement that the if Hipólito Mejía wins the election his admnistration, will establish a health insurance for the worker domestic workers. This insurance will be subsidized by the State and will also cover home workers and their children."

You PREMATURLEY Excited Purple Clapping Seals can the rest and weep at Acento.com

"Hipólito Mejía recibe el apoyo de la Asociación de Trabajadores del Hogar"

"El pacto contempla crear un programa a través del Instituto de Formación Técnico Profesional (INFOTEP) de capacitación de los/as trabajadores domésticos/as"

Hippo may have bought the support of the union leaders. But, it does not ensure they, the domestics, will vote for his ticket after this gaffe.

He is his own worst enemy. He is doing more to hurt his campaign than his opposing candidates.

According to Mejía, “maids steal the fillets from their bosses’ homes to give them to their boyfriends.” And according to Sandoval, "most of them are single and mothers."
So is this a put-down competition? They're either dishonest or stupid?

Now back to real news!

Now Boys and Girls here is your weekend reading assignment:

"Book "The dark side of the SunLand" sparks interest"

"SANTO DOMINGO (Dominican Republic).-Tthe book that began to circulate this morning written by Economist Jaime Aristy Escuder, on the subject "SUN LAND" has aroused interest because, according to the author of the work it answers important questions."

"This book is answers many questions that were never answered when the SunLand case was publicly exposed in September 2007", adds a note from the author.

"Some of the questions that the work answers are as follows:"

1 Why couldn’t the issuance of that debt be disclosed to the National Congress?

2 Why didn’t President Leonel Fernandez stop the transaction as soon he learned that it would violate the Constitution?

3. Who were the accomplices of Felix Bautista from the Government?

4. Who were the accomplices of Felix Bautista from the private sector?

5 What was the mechanism used to embezzle to the Dominican State?

6 What Bank was used for the laundering the assets derived from this public corruption case?

7 Where did the money go that was obtained from the placement of promissory notes with a face value $ 130 million US dollars?

8 Who appropriated the money?

9. What is the relationship of the SunLand case with construction companies linked to Felix Bautista?

10 Why the Supreme Court issued a ruling that broke with the case-law that she herself had created?

According to the author, the work is an investigation that complements what to date has been published on the contracts and expenditure carried out "from the business empire of Felix Bautista".

"In this book it identifies and analyzes the original accumulation made by the latter, one of the richest of the politicians in the Dominican Republic ", he adds.

The book will be presented by Dr. Andrés l. Mateo, national prize for literature in 2004

Jaime Aristy Escuder, one of former president's economic advisors. We all know how well the economy faired during the Mejia administration. We have to decide whether the former president did or not follow his advice. Pretend economists such as Escuder add more harm to Mejia with economic advice based upon fanciful ideas rather than promote sound economic policy.

Even he cannot help the former administrator keep his mouth shut. Hippolito is obnoxious and proves it in public by his actions as reported in this article.

All you PLD fans who are so busy planning how much more you will steal in the next 4 years, and chirping about what a sure win you have coming up in a coupel of weeks, please answer just one question:

If in the past 8 years govenment corruption has increased to a staggeringly high level., our education system has completely fallen apart (to the point where we rank 139 out of 141 countries in the last world wide competitiveness report), crime has increased dramatically, we have screwed over the IMF to the point where they will not lend us any more (and they have been the only reason that the country has not collapsed) and the drug problem is fast approaching out of control, exactly what do we have to look forward to in the next four years, other than more of the same.?

Any answers?

Oh yes, and before you start to insult me (since you can't minus me out anymore) please remember that I am the one who first called Mejia 'the worst president of any country ever".

Thank you juanb!

josean,

Education is not a priority for the government because it is not a priority for the majority of voters. The forum of Dominican Today is an example. I started a forum entitled "Education in the Dominican Republic - a Potential Solution", and kicked of with a very serious, wide-reaching proposal. Only 2 posters responded, guillermone (I think Dominican in USA) and dreadlocks (I believe Jamaican in the Dominican Republic). Yet when I started other forums, I was swooped on and attacked by masses of indignant posters, like a flock of vultures on discovering fresh road-kill. It shows where Dominican priorities lie.

A former minister in Lie-onel Fernandez’s government slaps him in his Corrupt Face and denies the PURPLE ECONOMIC Miracle!

“Max Puig accuses Fernandez of being permissive with corruption”

“He said that today the country exhibits the same levels of poverty as in 1992, while social inequality is increasingly evident among Dominicans”

That’s not crazy josean saying we have moved BACWARDS thanks to the Narc-Super Corrupt PLD led by Lie-onel , Danilo, Margarita and the bagman Felix Bautista!

“Max Puig was Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, and Labor Minister until he resigned last year to pursue political work as leader of the APD.”

Read the rest at Acento.com

“Max Puig acusa a Leonel Fernández de ser permisivo con la corrupción”

“Afirmó que hoy el país exhibe los mismos niveles de pobreza que en el 1992, mientras la desigualdad social se hace cada día más notoria entre los dominicanos y dominicanas”

Agree, a presidential candidate shouldn't say that. It was a tactical mistake to offend a whole bunch of women but seriously how many of you have not been robbed by the maids?

I have had several maids in the last 10 years taking out the meat, toilet paper, detergent etc. from my home. The half used toilet papers are the favorite, they just disappear and are exchanged against a new one. They sell this in the campo for some money. I agree these people don't earn a lot of money but there are still some honest people who work without stealing.

Hipo is just a guy who says right away what he thinks eventhough this is not typical for a politicion it makes him more human and trustworthy.

In 1st world countries theft by domestics may be a lot less, but they are paid much more and can only be afforded by the very wealthy. Count your blessings while they last.
