Santo Domingo.- The Foreign Relations Ministry yesterday held an emergency gathering of Dominican consuls in Haiti, just two days after reports that Dominican visas are being sold publicly in the neighboring nation for as little as US$180.

It’s the latest scandal in the business of Dominican visas, and dates back at least 10 years when a Russian national reportedly visited the Dominican Embassy in Washington and asked “who is the person who sells your passport.”

Consular and Immigration Affairs Deputy minister Nelly Pérez headed the meeting in the ministry, where the consuls were asked to respond to the press reports citing several Haiti agencies travel which offer Dominican visas, including the legal procedures at the Dominican consulates.

Though Perez admitted that the situation isn’t new, she affirmed that the authorities had managed to halt the illegal practice in the past.

US$180 visa “special”

Local media report that one-year Dominican visas are being offered for US$180 in Haiti, through posters in beauty salons, barber shops and restaurants and delivered to persons interested within 48 hours, “without delay.”

Idiot.

As if this problem wasn't there BEFORE the PLD got into office; indeed BEFORE the PLD was ever formed as a party!

Cédula buying has been going on for many decades in DR.

I had to create a log in just to mention how idiotic JOSEAN's comments are, I come in here daily just to read articles, get informed of whats going on in DR, and to read comments and others opinions.

Nonetheless, JOSEAN's opinions are never on point, they are ridiculous and make no sense. Please get more informed or at least try to be less ignorant when posting something.

You sound like you are 10 yrs old, how about writing something that actually makes sense for once.

If you'd like I can teach you one or two things.

What's needed is a series of adjustments, some dealing with better technologies like Bio-metrics identification. It cost some money, but the overall costs are coming down significantly.

You can never have a 100% safe system, but there are ways, perhaps costly, to prevent many of the most notorious ways this problem manifest itself.

RobertoJose, do you think he is the only governmental figure in the universe that is like this??? Go back and read some international news.. Hipolito would have been 1000000 x worse thats why he was not reelected, do you not remember when the ppl wanted to take him out of office ASAP!!

People forget, lucky for DR there are 51% of people with a brain and didnt vote for the Monstrous party of the PRD and HIPO.

Una verguenza para el pais!

Artistic portrait of Cyrus the Great
Cyrus (580-529 BC) was the first Achaemenid Emperor. He founded Persia by uniting the two original Iranian Tribes- the Medes and the Persians. Although he was known to be a great conqueror, who at one point controlled one of the greatest Empires ever seen, he is best remembered for his unprecedented tolerance and magnanimous attitude towards those he

The victory over Babylonia expressed all the facets of the policy of conciliation which Cyrus had followed until then. He presented himself not as a conqueror, but a liberator and the legitimate successor to the crown. He also declared the first Charter of Human Rights known to mankind. He took the title of "King of Babylon and King of the Land". Cyrus had no thought of forcing conquered people into a single mould, and had the wisdom to leave unchanged the institution of each kingdom he attached to the Persian Crown. In 539 BCE he allowed more than 40,000 Jews to leave Babylon and return to Palestine. This step was in line with his policy to bring peace to Mankind. A new wind was blowing from the east, carrying away the cries and humility of defeated and murdered victims, extinguishing the fires of sacked cities, and liberating nations from slavery.

BUT WE DID HAVE LEO AND HIPPO THE GREAT..

synapse,

You said...

"How can anyone have any pride in a country so corrupt that anything and everything is for sale."

Do you mean to tell us that you are writing from a 100% corruption free country! So, cases of bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, and embezzlement have never occurred. Are you writing us from Disney Land? If that is the case, then you should be very proud.
