SANTO DOMINGO. - The head of the powerful truckers union (Fenatrado), Blas Peralta, Monday challenged the Shipping Company Association to open the ports during the planned 24 hour strike starting 6am Tuesday until Wednesday.

“If they want they can go tomorrow to the ports and open them… Nobody is going to enter the ports, the ports are ours, we are the ones who control the transport here,” Peralta said on Nota Diferente 95.7 FM radio.

The heads of the truckers and bus owners unions have earned the moniker “country’s owners” for the fear they strike in president Leonel Fernandez’s Administration and their numerous violent strikes which go unpunished.

“Here in this country there’s just one transport system after merchandise arrives; that’s Fenatrado’s trucks and the ports will be closed tomorrow Tuesday and Wednesday, and we’ll see who has the force in the ports, if they the lowlifes (shipping companies) or the truck drivers,” Peralta said, adding that the strike is the Government’s fault, on its alleged RD$300.0 million debt with the truckers.

Shipping Company Association vice president Aníbal Piña vowed to open the ports’ gates to work normally despite Fenatrado’s call to strike. “We as private sector are going to continue working normally, however, so importers and exporters can transport their freight, the Government, the State, must guarantee free transit.”

The train is just another government ripoff. After the merchandise gets to Santiago is the train going to take it to its destination? The government doesn't have the necessary cojones to stand up to anyone, other than the poor.

Give 'em 700 pesos a month. That should feed them. Right?

Vote the bums out. But don't replace them with PRD bums.

The only ones you can blame for this fiasco and the joke that this has become is the DOMINICAN PEOPLE themselves.

The Truckers Union is led by Dominicans
Their Membership is made up of Dominicans
The Companies that caved into thier demands are Dominicans
The Government that refuses to confront them is made up be Dominicans
The Government was elected by Dominicans

So all you Dominicans Stop Complaining and do something about it!

Until these people get the Jimmy Hoffa cement treatment, they'll continue with their gross demands.

Quickest way to do this is to develop a modern efficient transportation system that supersedes their Mafia like hold over transportation.

Have an international bid, by private investors, and offer the tender for a island wide cargo and passenger train, in an exclusive contract for x amount of years, to transit from San Pedro de Macoris-Santo Domingo- Santiago- Puerto Plata.
And problem solved.

The Only Mafia the People are worried about is the One That currently controls ALL the Bracches of Goverment in DR alled the PLD, which is a Billion Times more dangreous than a truckers Union!

7 dias is simply the most sensationalist newspaper EVER..

Is a type of editorial bias in mass media in which events and topics in news stories and pieces are over-hyped to increase viewership or readership numbers.

Sensationalism may include reporting about generally insignificant matters and events that don't influence overall society and biased presentations of newsworthy topics in a sensationalist, trivial or tabloid manner.

If you want to read REAL news ..check this old article about the root of violence in DR:

Hey bosom buddies,
I found a person in SDQ on my vacation recently that was once a PRD top gun member who was a threat to your cause and was once approached by the PLD bag boys, they persuaded him to switch sides with a debt clearing 3million peso's. I would mention the name but, they know where I frequent and wouldn't want innocent people getting hurt. This guys kids college was paid off, his house, cars, credit cards and medical bills... Very ballsy of the PLD, I'll give them that and that's it..You guys on the other hand are one knee away from doing the DIRTY DEED..... In DR, money talks and bullshet walks. I wonder where that money came from, but, that's a different story. It's amazing the things you get out of a person when you can befriend them in DR, pull the right names out the hat, know what you're talking about and give them truth serum(Brugal).

I'm sure he was upset and shameful about it and had to vent . And, who else to vent to? A foreigner. lucky for for him.
