Santo Domingo. - After stating their concern for the often incendiary language which the campaign’s final leg has taken, several representatives of the Catholic and Evangelical churches and the president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) yesterday called on the political leadership to avert the acts of violence during rallies and other activities.

The cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez, Pontifical Catholic University director monsignor Agripino Núñez and JCE president Roberto Rosario and Evangelical Confederation president Fidel Lorenzo Merán urged the political leaders to maintain greater sanity and tranquility of spirit during the rest of the process.

In a statement, they asked the use of the political leadership’s authority to prevent that their rank and file attend rallies and activists bearing weapons and drinking alcohol, to avert confrontations.

The church can say as much as it wants to halt campaign violence but it will be in vain. These make the people feel secure meetings are sort of like a Sunday sermon from the pastor, some parishioners will listen, some will fall asleep, and some are there just to be seen to appear as God fearing.

However, when mass lets out and the niceties said; it is back to business as usual.

I have not seen much violence in the capital or the east ,,there has been much provocation when the marchers become a little drunk but it seems relatively peaceful ...The worst thing is that the country is being polluted with all these appalling advertising signs and posters

So Josie, Do you think the U$ 1,100 millions that Hipolito stole from Bonos Soberanos couldnt help to finance the "llego papa" campaign??
Do you want me to remind you what was that about?

My Gosh, I can barely wait that they already name Danilo next President, so we can get over this show..

Ms. Vickey,

Why hasn't Lie-onel in 8 years arrested him?

Why isin't Danilo making a BIG stink about it?

Why don't you Buy a Big Billboard in Cuidad Fernandez and inform the Dominican people about it?

Why don't you issue a press release to Univision and CNN about it?

?????????????????
