Santo Domingo.- The powerful truckers union Fenatrado Thursday night said it lifted its strike prior to the announced 48 hours on the concerns voiced by various sectors and the major presidential candidates’ call for dialogue, in reference to Danilo Medina and Hipólito Mejía.

In a statement union president Blas Peralta said the walklout was to press payment of the RD$300 million he says the Government owes them

He called the strike a success and said the truck drivers showed civism and discipline nationwide. “Therefore we’re making a call to our affiliates to suspend the strike and resume the freight transport service for their respective clients, for which from now on Fenatrado disavows any incident that groups who aren’t truck drivers could cause.”

No violent incidents

Police spokesman Máximo Báez said no incidents were reported during the walkout.

We can surmise there was some kind of obscure agreement made among all the players. Yet, one also has to think the strike was cut short because of revenue losses, no work, no pay.

The sad and criminal part of this is the players did not have any consideration of the public's needs.

Unless this is Friday morning...meaning I just had one hell of a sleep...I think they lifted the strike "Tuesday" night...not Thursday.

zooma,
There is nothing wrongor illegal with a strike in order to enforce payment of a debt that is long overdue.

"The President of Fenatrado, Blas Peralta, said that ending the one day day cargo carriers strike was as a result of the requests of presidential candidates Hipolito Mejia, Danilo Medina and other sectors."

"The organization also gave the government a deadline until May 20 to agree on the payment of debt or otherwise the work stoppage will start again."

There is nothing illegal about holding a strike as long as it conforms with the law. There was no mention at all when the sindicate announced there was going to be a strike that a vote of its membership had approved said action. Dominican law states a strike action has to be approved by 51% of the members. The lack of reporting such vote may suggest there was no vote and puts the legality of the strike at risk. The services of the truckers union is essential to the public need and the law indicates when services are essential there is no right to strike. Nevertheless, the sindicate does whatever it wants to do with impunity.

The government can be faulted for not paying the truckers what they are due and not carrying out its duty to the public to enforce the laws requiring the sindicate to stop its illegal strike.

This Strike served to demonstrate the Hypocrisy of the Purple Clapping Seals here at Dt.

Several weeks ago they were in self-serving uproar because Hippo said he would not pay debts incurred with the current administration that were not fully documented and vetted. They claimed that the financial markets would look at the DR negatively and it could affect our international credit rating.

Now these Truckers are trying to get paid for legitimate debts and the Purple Apologist are siding with the government’s failure to honor its debts and they say shit about Lie-onel’s intransigence affecting our credit rating, on the back of the slap in the face he took yesterday from the IMF and today from a large group of ambassadors including the US.

What Marco-economic Hypocrites they are!
