American busted with drugs in Santiago, Canadian in Puerto Plata(Update)

SANTO DOMINGO. – A Canadian tourist was arrested in Puerto Plata where he’ll be charged with possession of crack and marijuana, the National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) announced Wednesday.

It also announced the arrest of three men on drugs possession at Santiago’s Cibao International Airport, two of whom went to accompany the third prior to boarding a flight to New York City.

It said it seized six packages of heroin from the three men, one of them American, reportedly a U.S. soldier, who would’ve allegedly smuggled the 2.5 kilos of heroine to New York.

The DNCD said the Canadian, Michael Mendkeuoll, 47, claimed that the around four grams of drug were for his personal use.
