Santo Domingo.- As much as 60% of Dominican Republic’s territory is prone to flooding and from 60 to 70% are at risk of landslides, Efe reports Thursday.

National Emergency Commission director Luis Luna Paulino’s revelation marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season today, but noted that emergency plans and crews are prepared to act, supported by 10,000 volunteers.

He said the highest risk is the Bajo Yuna region, which spans the north-central and northeastern provinces Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Duarte, Salcedo, Sanchez Ramirez and Monseñor Noel. "That whole area is flood prone; it’s the most sensitive to flooding from prolonged rainfall."

Luna also included San Pedro de Macoris (east), Monte Cristi (northwest) and San Cristobal (west of Santo Domingo) among the areas most exposed to storm damage.

Maybe they could get these 10,000 volunteers during the drier season to plant trees in areas that are in need to prevent more land slides. Stop those removing trees, move people living in flood prone areas away and not allowing them back.... It's not like these are new flooding areas...... are they? Most areas that a prone to flooding have very well know high water lines.

Could be a good job for the Army??? hahahhahhahha sorry that would be just wishful thinking...

A big chunk of the territory is prone to feral peasant squatters inappropriate land use, causing flooding, landslides. No point re-planting trees until they've been compulsorily sterilized and re-located.

It should and could be done on every feral peasant illegally squatting - not difficult to determine. However this country doesn't even have the will to enforce road rules. Such a draconian though necessary measure will never be taken. Even if the government had the will, it would be prevented by the Catholic Church. Eventually all this will be academic when Sharia Law takes over. In the meantime most law-abiding Dominicans that are prepared to do an honest days work will have left the country, leaving behind the corrupt and the lazy. When was the last time any Dominican achieved anything of world significance, while still in the country?

You know damn well there is no creator and never has been. Regardless, the right to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." does not include the right to have kids you can't feed, educate or shelter, or to destroy the environment, even if it makes you "happy". Overpopulation infringes on the "rights" of law-abiding and responsible folk, particularly in the Dominican Republic. That's why so many are leaving, as the crime rate continues to climb.

in 2011 it passed 7.0 billion and is still increasing
That's not a "myth" in my book.
It is increasing amongst those who can least afford it, especially in the Dominican Republic, regardless of PLD or PRD.

Even forgetting the earth has finite resources, the math is up the sh!t.
Of course the percentage rate of increase, reduces even if the population increases linearly. However it does not follow that it will reach zero, then become negative. It would approach an asymptote. Meanwhile the environment is being destroyed. The capacity of the planet to support people, despite technological advances, is reducing. A crisis is inevitable. Most humans are stupid, and they are increasing their majority. The population of the planet is already beyond a sustainable level.

The population of Homo sapiens will not drop until well into the next Dark Ages, when Islam becomes universal. We may even become extinct, but not until we have extinguished many more species than we have already done.

The video is correct in that the population of the earth will not continue to increase exponentially, or even linearly, indefinitely. However the implication is, there is noting to worry about - somehow it is self-correcting. Yes it will level out eventually, with the destruction of civilization. Hopefully I'll be long dead by then, so I will care even less than I do now.
