Santo Domingo.- The National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) arrested Janney A. Suriel, daughter of the newly elected Overseas deputy Levy Suriel Gomez, on charges of laundering money from drug trafficking.
Janney Surie is the sister of Levy Jamil, also son ruling PLD party deputy, and who’s being held in New York on a case of 75 kilos of cocaine seized in Punta Cana’s Marina (east) in December.
The DNCD and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) were watching the two brothers for allegedly forming part of a ring which shipped cocaine to the United States.
"This is a case that the DNCD and the Drug Enforcement Administration United States (DEA) have been working together for months. The woman's brother was arrested in New York on April 12 this year."
In a statement DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebron said US$60,975 in cash was seized from Janney Suriel during an April 12search ??in her residence.

Release these poor unfortunate kids. They were only trying to supplement the family's income, who are struggling to survive on the tiny pittance, allowances and benefits these overseas deputies receive.
From: United States
i wonder whose fault is it that these guys are laundering money, and selling drugs? oh, yes. now i remember. it is the fault of those terrible Americans, and their insatiable appetite for hallucinogens. free them, i say.

Roy, very good comment, I am with you and the poor kids. Later today, when I have some time, will cry for them a bit!!!!!!!!!

Danilo is nothing but latest MADE GUY to “control” the Constitutional Purple Dictatorship and placing hopes in him is like wishing to find water in the Atacama Desert!

some writers say it is always the fault of the government and never the fault of these stupiid people who want to make fast money illegally ,,seems that Josean can not see that this is a case in the USA , in New York and the recently elected deputy seems to be quite clean ...
Abouttime Josean started blaming the USA government for all the drug problems in the USA , the biggest contributer to the drug trade in the world

Josean it is too late. Quisqueya is the next Mexico. PLD will in 4 more years turn Quisqueya into a place where only the canalla roam free

Ric. I believe those blaming the government are doing it because it has seems to have been going on far to long, under the nose of or by government members, with very little to no repercussion and by all parties, armed forces and police...
When those at the top brake the rules and get away with it, with on repercussion... well I think you know the rest....
Just a thought....

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my belief is that overseas deputies are elected by the people, not appointed by the government. If so, then who's fault is it - Uncle Sam or Cousins Stupid?
From: United States, NJ
No Roy:
In that country of ours the deputies are appointed by their party or what gvt is in power . It is not a real democracy as it is in AUSTRALIA where you have provincial elections and governmental elections. TRUJILLO saw to it, and the so call democracies that followed never went back to the old way for their own convenience. Centralize and control ,no diferent from a dioctatorship.

When a proven buffoon and country-destroyer like the Hippo gets almost half the votes at an election, I'm not sure if Dominicans know what to do with democracy anyway. Who knows how many more decades the country would have tolerated Trujillo had the USA not masterminded and funded his assassination.
From: United States, NJ
Roy:
I don't think the USA had anything to do with Trujillo's assassination, since they left him in power to pay the national debts and control the country to their likeking. So it was not to the USA interest to get rid of him sine he was a stern anti-comunist,and that was all that matter then. The proof is that they had to go back in and stop revolutin from spreading.

Thelmo, here's one account:
"But the relationship gradually soured over Trujillo's human rights record. The final straw was an assassination attempt sponsored by Trujillo, against the president of Venezuela, Romulo Betancourt. The US closed its embassy and withdrew its ambassador.
President Eisenhower had already approved a contingency plan to remove Trujillo if a suitable successor could be persuaded to take over. But the new Kennedy administration withdrew formal support for the attempt on Trujillo's life at the last minute.
The failed invasion of Cuba at the Bay of Pigs had taken place the previous month, and President Kennedy was worried that a power vacuum in nearby Dominican Republic could allow another Castro to take power there."
"The Cold War had moved to the Caribbean," says Bernardo Vega, Dominican historian and former ambassador to Washington."

"The only material support provided by the US for the assassination was three M1 carbines left in the US Consulate after the withdrawal of embassy staff, and handed over with CIA approval."

That does not proof anything since the US marines were equiped with such weapons .They could
have either left it behind in a hurry or purposely left it .Have you forgotten Trujillo was # 1 short weaopns manufacturer in LA? and better weaopns than the M1 Carabine which has an accurate range of 300 yards as opposed to the Critobal 1000 meters.I know since i used it in the US army
I wonder what ever happened to that industry no one wants to talk about?

Roy :
Again we are talking about a head of State (Romulo Betancourt) who was democraticaly elected,
had it been Castro they would had never pulled their embassy from DR since they were after the
same thing as to get rid of Castro.
In the 50's Trujillo had send 30 English made Jets and DR pilots to Cuba so they could bomb
Sierra Maetra where Castro was hidding from Batista . Batista never gave the order to proceed.
Along with those plane Batista rtecieved ample military weapons and munition but he decided
that would had created international scxandal and decided to cut out and asked for political refuge in DR . He was not let out of the country untill all the debts were paid since like Trujillo
had said "military supply was to You " not to Cuba and its future regime when Batista wanted to refuse but Trujillo had him by the testicales and had to pay from his Swiss Acct.

Thelmo,
Truth, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
I have read many "reliable" but conflicting reports on the relative level of involvement of the countries in the assassination. For many Dominicans, it was planned, financed and carried out entirely by Dominicans. As an Australian, I don't have a position on the debate. It happened half a century ago. I have enough difficulty understanding current Dominican politics, or to be more precise, the lack of it.
