Yzaguirre: US to issue stiffer warning if thefts near airport continue

Santo Domingo.- U.S. ambassador Raul Yzaguirre said the holdups against U.S. citizens continue near Las Americas Airport (AILA), for which he’ll issue a new and even stronger warning to his compatriots.

He said though the U.S. Embassy’s next step would be to alert US citizens more often, said he expects the situation to be resolved with no need for further warnings.

The diplomat, speaking after heading a donation of computer equipment at the Emergency Operations Center, acknowledged the Police’s arrest of suspects near the AILA, charged with holding up and pursuing travelers who had exited the airport.

On its website the U.S. Embassy recently warned its citizens that highway robbers were operating out of the AILA.
