Santo Domingo.- In the polls won by ruling PLD party candidate Danilo Medina occurred a chain of events that violated the laws, rules and regulations which uphold a participatory democracy, says a letter to the Organization of American States (OAS) from the ex candidate of Dominican Republic’s opposition PRD party.

Hipolito Mejia, in a missive May 29, says the "topic" is summed up as "serious acts against the will of the people exercised by the Government of the Dominican Republic in the elections on May 20, 2012.”

The document, submitted to OAS by secretary general José Miguel Insulza, notes that "in light of the Constitution, international treaties on civil and political rights and the laws of the Dominican Republic, before, during and after this election, irregularities were committed to alter the right of citizens to elect and be elected, and the results thereof, to the detriment of national and supranational legal rules that govern and regulate this matter, and in clear violation of the spirit the American Democratic Charter.” To illustrate and support his claims Mejia tells Insulza that, as stated in Article 8 of the Charter, he is allowed to present the six page report to the OAS.

How could any party continue to support such a man when they saw before his appalling administration , they saw during the elections his conduct and they can see how how he has no dignity or any sense of decent behaviour . If he would just retire and let the PRD try to rebuild itself with proper standards , it would be good for the country .
And how can anyone here on DT continue to support him ...

" Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--"

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure."

It's about time the PRD wakes up and smell the coffee. What they need to do is stop acting like kids and be real men and women and try to run a positive party and show all dominicans that there will be a honest leader within the party. The PRD lost Mays election only because the 2 top people in there party could not get along. This is the main reason the party lost on may 20.It's sad for all PRD members that worked so hard putting there time ad money into a losing leader that should of not been their in the first place. Now for what its worth the PRD must vote a honest member to be the new leader and i know that will be hard to for fill in the D.R..

Wrong again. The PRD never had the stomach to put up an armed struggle, historically they where just big mouths. The real fighting was done by the 14 of June movement, invasion and post invasion, and by the military heroes that fought in the 24 April movement, not one single PRD official was involved in the struggle, except Peña Gomez who did not fight, but spoke in the radio to send the demonstrators into the streets.
The only involvement of the PRD was, that they where coincidentally the government that Caamaño and the 24 April movement was trying to put back in power, which turned out to be a mistake, since Juán Bosch chickened out and double crossed Caamaño at the end.
In retrospect a mixed military junta would have been a better solution, and would have saved all the lives that were lost and forgotten, that fought for an unworthy cause.

From January 1939 until May 30 1961 who was the primary anti-Trujillista Force?

Written by: generoso, 13 Jun 2012 12:45 PM
From: Dominican Republic, United States
They were many in-island anti-trujillista forces, including the failed invasion of Cayo Confites in1947, and later 1949, the revolt of the sargents in San Isidro, the plot of 1958, the heroes of 30 of May 1961, and many others that you can research.
The PRD, Juán Bosch et all, only offered passive resistance in exile, with their pens, along with sometimes suspicious dealings with the dictator, and secret letters and deals with his son Ramfis.
Ask anyone who (really) participated in the revolution of 1965, all the PRD officials where in hiding, requested asylum in embassies, or were nowhere to be seen.

“The Government used 8 billion pesos from the sale of national brewery in the campaign”

"HM also complains to Hillary about the election"

SANTO DOMINGO.-The former presidential candidate of the PRD, Hipólito Mejía, filed a complaint with Hillary Clinton like the one he sent to the Organization of American States (OAS) in which questioned the Dominican elections.

A document, indicating that the election of Danilo Medina was the result of "a chain of events that violated laws, rules and standards of a democratic and participatory State", was delivered to the United States Secretary of State on Tuesday at 3: 00 pm.

Who cares about what Hipolito says, Josean if I were you I will use my time to talk the PRD members that Hipolito is not the choice to follow because he is finished and never would have the chance to run again for president because he is already almost 72 years old and I don't think that in 4 years time he will be more practical and less talk. Instead you guys should look at what cost you to lose the election, if Hipolito would it only kept his mouth closed he might it been the elect president now, but instead he did like most people do in colmados in the DR to trash the other and then have nothing to back it up. Hipolito should be greatful that Miguel and Leonel signed the pat called the BLUE TIES, because if wasn't because Hipolito would it never had the chance to run according to the constitution of that time

Hipolito Mejia was elected by his party to run for president, he did not elected the party -- the party elected him. I don't support any politician nor do I vote in any given election. I do observed them and I investigate the true vs. the false reporting that is taken out of context to make an individual look like a fool. I had never heard Hipolito speaking and when I did heard him speak I understood him perfectly clear. In a televised panel of some supposed political analyst that were asking both candidates pertinent questions regarding for example; the 4% for education, Hipolito said " thats been proposed and its something that will need to be study ...", Danilo on the other hand said " the 4% will have come come from whatever ...". The respond given by Hipolito is the more logical one cause it just can come from whatever, it has to be study as to how to included in the national budge. Second question was on what will they do or how will they handle the corruption within the

the government. Again Hipolito answer that there were laws and that some new laws may come into effect to deal with corruption within the government ... Danilo, evaded the question by stating that corruption begins in the home. He when on and on but never as to the present laws that can be used and apply to corrupted government officials. The panel in their responding to the answers lean more in favor of Danilo. Ignoring the more direct respond from Hipolito. Just recently the letter send to the O AS is a well written document which at some point someone will take something out of context and make it seem like is not a well written document. The problem with some is that they want to hear untrue and Hipolito tells it like it is. When it favors Obama, Obama will say his from Africa, or from Hawaii, or that he was homeless in New York City. If someboby else say it, it becomes an offense.
