Santo Domingo.- Eastern La Altagracia province, whose county seat is Higuey, is the most notorious region in cases of bogus property titles, followed by the National District.

Higüey had 48.89 percent of the 315 fraudulent titles detected in four years, followed by the National District’s 35.24 percent.

Nonetheless a report by National Titles Registry director Rosabel Castillo shows fewer irregularities in four years, with 37 last year, or 71 fewer than 2008.

"To date the National Titles Registry is in a restructuring and reform process that includes a survey, comprehensive analysis and solution of complex cases, to be consistent with our socio-cultural reality," Castillo said quoted by listin.com.do.

The report notes that all title registrars must send any file with irregular situation or attempt to commit unlawful acts to the National Office, which will then review it for possible criminal prosecution.

The sooner this mess is resolved the better. Having clear and legal title to property is monumentally important in promoting development and modernity.

To the Author - It would be helpful and properly informative if you stated the adequate process for having your deed revised/validated in case an owner has doubts as to the validity of the document.

Why can't it be handled at the provincial level? why must everything have to go to Sto Dgo,? I could

see if it was a major problem where you would have to go to the appealet court of justice.what is

the sence of having autonomous provinces if you have to take a trip to Santo Domingo for mustly

everything?

I hate having to go to Santo Domingo for everything. It ends up being an expensive waste of a day...as most often...you must go back because of one inept reason or another. Would not be so bad if they spread the offices out to the corners of the country where things are happening.
