Miami.- A 208 kilo shipment of cocaine hidden in a container was seized in the port of Miami, where it arrived aboard a freighter which set sail from Panama and made stops in Colombia, Mexico and Dominican Republic, reports EFE citing the U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE).

The confiscation on May 29 resulted from a routine search of containers when sniffer dogs handled by Custom and Border Protection detected the narcotics hidden in suspicious boxes in boat’s deposits.

The agents searched the entire container and found 169 bricks of cocaine hidden in eight cardboard boxes, ICE said in a statement.

The drug is valued at around US$7.3 million.

The container was part of freighter’s cargo which was first shipped from Panama, but made stops in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and other ports.

Reuters reports that the case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.

could this be one of the reason's for the dominicans being involved in the drug trade? schools in the united states in the dr the numbers are much lower.
only 50% of hispanic students earn their high school diplomas. only 13 percent of u.s. hispanic students earn a bachelor's degree, compared with 17% of african-american students, 31% of white non-hispanic students and 50% of asian students. only 4% of hispanic u.s. students earn a master degree. the chineses, south korean's, india, they are hungry for education. in china, singapore and other asians countries that get the highest scores in international standardized students tests, their is a generalized, obsession of famlies with their children's education.
people in these country's are conviced that their children's future depends on how well they do in school,

think dominican parents could use some of this same obsession that the asians have for education.

The ship made a stop in a Dominican port, period.

What the source of the story omitted is what port was the ocean container with the contraband onloaded aboard ship. The sailing originated in Panama with stops in Columbia, Mexico, and Puerto Plata.

Well, wasnt it another tread on today saying that DR need to export more. This is just the first of many steps to that goal. Go ahead and start blaming the US for ruin your export right away.
