Santo Domingo.- The State-owned power company (CDEEE) CEO Celso Marranzini on Thursday said the utility bought 15,000 new, prepaid-type meters to provide that service to more users, and denied that the device makes electricity more expensive.

"We can’t change rates, it’s the Electricity Superintendent which varies rates. It’s not more expensive,” the official said. “It’s cheaper because it has been found that everyone who uses prepaid meters is monitoring their consumption, the loss is reduced by 20%. Also remember that we changed all high consumption light bulbs for low-consumption ones at no cost to the users of this method. "

He said the meters will arrive in the country in mid-July. "The installation capacity is quick, they could be on the system within one month," but noted that the service is only available in the sector El Manguito, and will also be installed in Villa Juana.

Marranzini, who didn’t specify the cost of the meters, said the program's goal is for 300,000 people to have energy 24 hours.

Their goal is to have electricity available to everyone 24 hours a day.

Everything else is unacceptable.

Who are they B/S ,we all know that the final cost is going to the consumers to absorb as it is done

in any civilized country ,unless it is also part of the subsidy, I can't understand is how is this meter

going to create more electricity. Electricity is there or is not.. The meter only gives the supplier how

much the user has used for that month.Which it is only fare, not to have to pay for some one else

Is this somehting like a pre-paid phone cards that when your time is up they cut you off.? Same as

the meter to cut you off after let us say 5 KW of electricity is used up and then put more coins in the

meter for further use if you want to buy some more?It sounds good to protect the consumers if that

is what it is.

Mrthelmo,

The system works like a prepaid phone card, you put as much electricity as you can buy and then you use it however you chose to use it. So it is a very good system and a proven fact already.
