Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Navy bestowed the "Order of Naval Merit" Medal for Distinguished Service on Lt. Commander Luis Gutierrez, who served as liaison officer between the US Coast Guard and the Dominican Republic.
President Leonel Fernandez Decree 296-12 contains the official recognition, granted at the request of Navy Chief of Staff, Vice admiral Nicolas Cabrera.


That's nice. you get a merit badge for doing your job now...
Not as rare as showing bravery when under heavy enemy fire, since the Dominican military is a stay-at-home military, there to protect the government (and their wives) from the people.

LET ME TELL U THIS COAST GUARD THEY HAVE IN THE STATES ARE REALLY A BUNCH OF GREAT PEOPLE WHO HELP TO SAVE MANY LIVES ON THE HIGH SEAS.
IN MANY CASES DO MORE THEN THEIR JOB.
U NEVER SEE THE COAST GUARD IN ANY KIND OF SCANDAL OF ANY KIND.
THEY HELP ALL IN NEED NO MATTER WHERE YOUR FROM.
