Rio de Janeiro.- President Leonel Fernandez became one of the first leaders to rebuke the ouster of Paraguay resident Fernando Lugo, when he vigorously condemned the measure as illegal and undemocratic, and asked the international community to not recognize Paraguay’s new government.
Upon learning of Congress’s impeachment of Lugo in Asuncion on Friday, Fernandez asked the Organization of American States to immediately convene the foreign ministers, to suspend the South American country from the region’s organizations.
The head of state argued that there should be a collective action by the international community, aimed at reinstating Lugo to Paraguay’s presidency, and revert what he calls a decline in respect for the rule of law in Latin America.
"Regardless that resident Lugo has been replaced by the Vice President, this is a government whicih lacks all legality," Fernandez said from Rio de Janeiro, where he participates in United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio +20.
The presidents of Ecuador Rafael Correa and of Venezuela Hugo Chavez, among others, have alsot rebuked the impeachmet.

He thinks he is fricken god's gift to the free world! he should pay attention to the total lack of democracy in his own bloody country where money talks and he just looks the other way! He should start by purging the corruption in his own party and work his way out to putting all the local mafia untouchables raping the country in jail starting with Aristy Castro, Canoa, etc, etc. to numerous to name. He should clean the military of drug dealers and all the dirty money creating a false economy and then finally defending journalists with freedom of the press from death threats for exposing corruption!
This megalomania jerk who thinks of himself as Winston Churchill of the caribbean is after Kofi and Moon's job in the UN since he will be marginalized by Danilo in the DR. He makes me sick with his parading around the globe as if he has made this Banana Republic a model democracy!

If I were Fernandez I would be so ashamed of 8 years of creating wealth for himself and spending the country into oblivion during the biggest free for-all in the history of the DR.
What the hell does he have to brag about other than economic ruin?

but was the move illegal ?? can the congress there impeach a President if they find him guilty of crimes or does it have to go the highest court ?? If the congress is within its rights, then there is nothing much any other country can or should do .
Politics is a nasty game for grubby people and there are few decent people who are in it for the good of the people.

The BBC has suggested that the congress acted within its rights and President Lugo who knew that the congress was debating the issue decided not to go the supreme court .President Lugo is left wing and the congress is right wing ...I guess that is why LF,Chavez and the leaders of Argentina and Ecuador are against the impeachment .
Argentina is being destroyed again by the female socialist President who has insured that no foreign investment enters her country as the result of her stealing a Spanish company

I take it Lionel has speed read all the documents relating to this mess before opening his mouth, just as so many have pointed out his defence of Zelaya was on shakey ground. Has Lugo been offered political refuge in DR as citizens expense, and if so what was the price of that?

The only reason why Lugo is getting impeach is because the police used brutality to try to get some people out some government land and the president say no because those needed to go to fair trial and just be taking out of land that they have been living in it for the past 30 years. I think that any president has the right to look after and defend his people. So you guys need to get more info about the case and then make an opinion.

If you know anything about Paraguay, it is so Corruptly Provincial that it makes the DR look like Switzerland.
I don't call it a Banana Republic only because it has no Bananas, but other than that it has the worst local Mafia Untouchables that control the entire country than you can imagine. The word Democracy is that just a word and it doesn't apply to this country, because you have to pay to play here and buy what ever level of democracy you want. Why do you thing we don't here much about Paraguay? It is because the locals don't want anyone to come in with big money and upset their power within their local mafia holds. It is another country that the US needs to invade and through all the powerful oligarchy in jail for ripping off the country.

German Ambassador Claude Robert Ellner visited the presidential palace and said his country "will continue as normal with all cooperation agreements with Paraguay. We see the process of change happening within the laws and the constitution, because no parliament makes a coup d'etat."

Of course, many people have been killed in DR at the hands of the police and military. Leo knows his government is guilty of murdering civilians. I strongly support what the Paraguayans have done, your president steps out of line, kick him out. After all in a true democracy the government should work with the people and for the people, when they turn against you then it’s time to act. I wish that kind of patriotic attitude existed in DR.

Leonel pandering to the left wing caudillos Chavez,Correa and Evito Morales not to mention BJ lips Kirchner .This crowd can hardly speak of democracy and as many have stated already perhaps Leonel is afraid that this precedent may be used against him in his next term after Danilo and Margaritas puppet presidency.
