Sometimes I think that all traffic should be banned at night on the main roads,,so many trucks and motor bikes and cars without lights and so many drivers more than a little drunk ,,this is just another horrible accident that should not have happened

This is sad. As a frequent visitor, I wonder when respect for MV traffic laws will gain any traction. I can speculate among the many contributing traffic violations that may have resulted in such sadness, but the top of my list will have to be the lack of rear lights, or reflectors on the truck.

You have to be insane to drive on anything other than a local street at night. And even then, you have to do it really carefully.

try san pedro de macoris to la Romana at night with cows, horses, and goats grazing along the road and crossing at whim and dogs wandering along ...that is without having to look out for all the cars , trucks and bikes without lights and then there are the pot holes

I lost a friend in DR. He was returning to the capital, driving on the highway, ran into a construction truck left on the highway with no signage or lights, etc. Disgraceful. It's high time for a new sheriff; time to impose penalties that people will respect. Tickets. No pay, no license. Caught without license, bigger fine and jail time for multiple offenders. Still no pay, jailm time or repossession of property like car or bank accounts, etc. People will learn real quick to respect the law. Those "good drivers" in other countries don't drive the way they do because they're better dirvers, they do it for fear of the penalties when they caught driving in recklessness manner, etc.
