Jose Polanco hands the papers to vehicles to Tourism Police officers.
Santo Domingo.- Interior and Police minister Jose Ramon Fadul Wednesday said he’s willing to close the entire country if it’s a measure which averts the din and lewd behavior from bars in residential areas, such as the case of the Colonial Zone.
The official warned that the bars shuttered in that area of the capital, aren’t authorized to reopen, "on contrary, they’ll continue closed even longer."
He said a total of 21 businesses were shuttered and vowed to continue with its plan to closing those which jeopardize their neighbors.
Fadul spoke to reporters at Police headquarters, where he handed a RD$2.1 million check to distribute among families of the slain agents Estarlin Gregorio Segura, Francisco Mesa, and Martirez Perez Mendez.
He also handed Police chief Jose Polanco the keys to two trucks, eight cars and a motorcycle to heighten patrols on roads frequented by tourists, mostly near the airports.

One has to start someplace. My fear is this is more like the trailer for a "B" movie that has a future to become a flop.

so far there has been no large disco or large bar shut down ,,,there are many in Zona colonial that are total fire hazards with no escape routes and so fat they have targeted the small bars that actually cause few problems,How can you escape when you are in a basement or even at ground level when there there is only one small entry door .
I know best the discos and bars in and around calle Mercedes and the police have targeted the ones that cause little offence but have done nothing about the places that are very noisy and cause street problems when patrons buy a drink and then leave the stifling conditions inside and drink outside . The police are just playing games

I was one of the residents who was involved in the protests. We have for the last two years had a disco opposite our houses which has operated completely illegally. The planning rules say there cannot be a disco there. Every weekend we have had techno music played so loud that for most of my neighbors it was completely impossible to sleep. The sound was so loud that it caused furniture to move from one side of the room to the other. One old guy in his 70's had three heart attacks which his doctor put down to the stress the disco was causing. For at least a year the residents have been campaigning relentlessly to get something done, and finally the government has listened and acted. There have been a series of meetings between the Junta de Vecinos and the authorities, including the police, in which the authorities have listened to residents complaints. The list of bars being closed is not being decided arbitrarily, there is actually a lot of consultation with resident groups goi
