Santo Domingo.- The widening rift within Dominican Republic’s opposition party (PRD) is playing right into the hands of the ruling PLD, when the organization’s president Miguel Vargas and his rival the ex candidate Hipolito Mejia raised their dispute to the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), most of whose members were chosen by the PLD.
Vargas’ move comes just hours after “president in functions” and Mejia collaborator Andrés Bautista vowed to defend that faction in any State entity
Both factions have suspended and even expelled members of the rival group, with challenges to the measures likely to end up in the Supreme Court, and eventually to the Constitutional Court, both tribunals widely influenced by the PLD.
The PRD internal crisis is expected to be drawn out, as both factions appear to count with a similar number of national leaders.

Thank goodness, the PRD did not win the election. Especially if this is an example of how they would have governed the country....very scarey!

PLD at it best with spliting the PRD party so that way they can have even more power in both the senate and congress. Will you image what would been had the PRD won the election, right now the fight would it be even worst among each ther

in my opinion, they should get together all the PRD people and send them to "sembrar yuca" to Gurabo..because after all, that's what they were trying to do..
So at least they should have their leader together and everybody would be happy..

Miguel Vargas is an ego driven person. Regardless of the difference opinions between him and Hipolito, Miguel should had pull his influence and political knowledge into the campaign of Hipolito. As President of the PRD it was his duties to organized in favor of one of his own. The reason for Miguel not supporting Hipolito was cause he wanted to be the one running for president. Deep or not so deep in the mind of Miguel was if I'm not the one selected by the PRD to run for President then no one will get my support. Now, does such a person deserved to be President of such a plitical Party as the PRD? In my opinion NO. If Hipolito leaves the PRD, Miguel will feel that he can become someday President of D.R. He has proven that his not capable of holding such an office as president of D.R.. This is not about Hipolito now, is about the survival of a POLITICAL PARTY the PRD.
