SANTO DOMINGO.- President elect Danilo Medina on Tuesday affirmed he’s prepared to govern Dominican Republic regardless of the global economic crisis.

"The bad times don’t scare me, the bad times the world is living in... I prepared myself to rule the Dominican Republic," Medina said in the presentation of the Central Electoral Board’s certification as president.

He said the Dominican people will come out unscathed from the country's economic, social and other problems, pledged to serve the country and thanked president Leonel Fernandez for his support.

Medina’s speech drew tears from the first lady and vice president elect Margarita Cedeño.

The Board also presented certificates to the new Deputies abroad Jose Ernesto Morel, Ruben Dario Luna, Alfredo Rodriguez, Antonio Azcona, in U.S. district 1, Levy Suriel Gomez, Adelis de Jesus of U.S. district 2, and Marcos Cross and Aurelio A. Mercedes, of district 3, Europe.

A president has been elected, like it or not. My loyalty is with the constitution and the democratic form of government. Elections are over, time to work and be productive and stop the whining, moaning and complaining.

If you are true to those words…………

Then you must be in opposition to those who “allegedly” won because they don't respect either!

The Most Dangerous thing that can happen in any political situation especially in the aborted embryonic Dominican “democracy” is to “STOP the whining, moaning and complaining.”

I am sure Trujillo and Balaguer would used similar comments after they stole their elections!

Will Danilo be a Pepe Mujica or Narco-Lie-onel?

“Pepe Mujica is the world's poorest president, and not ashamed”

“He only owns an old Volkswagen “cepillito” type. Donates most of his salary, and so will do the same with his pension when he leaves the presidency.”

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay. - The president of Uruguay, Pepe Mujica, is a phenomenon of social networks and media. After the Spanish newspaper El Mundo presented him as the world's poorest president, because of the way he lives, he has become a phenomenon of the social networks.

For the Uruguayans is not strange the way their president lives, but for the media around the world it is.

In the article published by the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Mujica said that he donates 90% of his salary to different agencies. The president receives 250,000 pesos a month, of which only gets 20,000 pesos, equivalent to about U.S. $ 959.

He'll make a great president by just staying the course and expanding prison capacity for criminals in government.
He'll do great, starting with the cleaning up and reduction of the armed forces. This includes the national police. The present thief, er..chief, has to go. Install someone who'll protect the public rather than rob it.
If he can affect a reduction in crime by half, he would have done his job.

Corruption won and honesty lost. How can he say that the world is facing an economic crisis. That is false. The only people that are facing any sort of economic crisis are those that are unemployed. Are the deputies selected oversea facing an economic crisis with a salary of over RD$300.000 pesos per month. Is the new elected president facing an economic crisis or all of those corrupted officials? Is the newly elected vice-president facing an economic crisis? What the newly elected president should be saying to the dominican population in general is a dedication to create jobs and to clean the government of corruption. To bring to justice any corrupted official and to fight the escalating criminal activities. But what do people care, the true is no longer valid , decencies is no longer alive along with honesty. Lets cheer the King and Queen.

Thanks, Vivacuba,
just read the article. I don't know how accurate the article is, however you have misrepresented what it says. You said that "julia gillard will be imposing fines and arresting business owners who complain of the rising prices blamed on carbon taxes."
That is not what the article says. I says they can only blame price increases on carbon taxes if it is true. I don't have a problem with a requirement for truth in business. Obviously you do.

Well, the impetus is then upon the person making the accusation which of course will be judged by the government in THEIR opinion. Carbon taxes are a farce and line the pockets of the global elitists. This is a wealth transfer scheme and Australia is a test bed for what the rest of the world will follow.

Vivacuba,
The impact of the carbon tax on costs is easily calculated, passed on and justified. It has nothing to with whether the tax is justified or not, whether AGW is real or not, or if the tax will have any effect on the CO2 level in the atmosphere. In my opinion it is just another excuse to take money from those who earn it, and give it to those who don't. (Socialism) I am not convinced by the arguments for or against AGW. However if it drives Australia towards adopting clean, safe, cheep nuclear power I'm all for it. Sadly that debate is not happening.
