roy the facts don`t lie vaccines when taken in high dossages can be fatal or harmfull . The united states is at all time high with autistic children running around , throwing temper tamtrums like freaking maniacs . Make no mistake about it vaccines do indeed caused autism to children and not to mention its high on mercury .

It is not funny that the US who wants the world to use vaccines have the worst heath, more people than ever before have cancer,flu and aids but have all these great vaccines.

I have found that the annual flu injection has worked well with me an of course flu can be a killer just as cholera can be ..the chances of getting flu here are much much greater than cholera which can be treated so easily if you go to a hospital when the signs are there. I would be more concerned here in the DR at preventing diabetes and kidney infections .

I suppose there are those who wil blame the government for people coming down with the flu , diabetes, cholera or kidney infections and they believe that a person has no responsibility to take care of his own health

Ricky, I wouldn't put flu in the same category and Cholera. Even hospitalized patients with a drip, have died from the disease.
However I agree wholeheartedly that most ill heath is lifestyle-related and avoidable. In my view it is not the government's responsibility to protect us from our own carelessness, or to pick up the tab afterwards.

i am in the mood for a Sunday Afternoon Licking, so get out the licking sticks, as i am going to say this, regardless of who likes it,or not. epidemics are controlled by proper hygiene regimens. everybody with any knowledge of health care knows that people do not catch colds, and the flu, by walking in the rain, but by contact with the germs. most people catch colds from handling things like doorknobs. that is why public toilets , and such, are automatic, to prevent one person from using the flush handle after another person has done so. the DR is a fertile playground for germs such as the flu, because nobody uses things like handkerchiefs. they all stop one nostril with a finger, and blast phlegm in all directions. no good can come of that. i am amazed when i am standing with some guys here, and they simply go into the snot blowtorch routine, leaving bacteria everywhere, then shaking hands with you, right after. no wonder one guy gets sick, the whole area gets sick.

You are absolutely correct about the vectors for cold and flu viruses, and the role of the "Dominican hankie". (You forgot to mention spitting - also a vector for tuberculosis, and Cholera from lack of hygene.)
However getting a chill from being caught in the rain can weaken ones immune system to allow these viruses to take hold. It amuses me to see Dominicans scurrying and panicking when it starts to rain. No one has a raincoat, as if it has never rained before on a tropical island! Also vitamin C deficiency also weakens the immune system. Dominican oranges are awful, however the grapefruit is good (ignore the black fungus, its harmless) and acerola (they call them cherries) are much higher in vitamin C. Just avoid the masses of sugar Dominicans use (that's why so many die from diabetes).

yes, Roy, i agree with you that if you do get a severe chill from a rain shower, you will experience a drop in your immune system. you also get a drop in your immune system when your diet consists mainly of foods fried in a gallon of oil.
