SANTO DOMINGO.-   U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano arrives in the country Thursday night for a visit of less than 24 hours, during which she’s expected to sign cooperation agreements on the war on drug trafficking, including the use of drones in the Caribbean region.

Napolitano arrives in the country from Brazil and at 9am Friday in the U.S. Ambassador’s residence, is expected to sign the agreement for Dominican Republic to use the unmanned aircraft, also known as drones or predators, whose range exceeds 1,000 miles.

Quoting military sources, local media report that non-US staff, including Dominicans, currently trains for the drones’ mission, mostly maritime surveillance.

Drug cartels have been consolidating their operations in Haiti, from where they cross into Dominican territory to personally supervise drug transports to Puerto Rico via the Mona Passage in small craft and to Europe on ships.

Despite some over patriotism about sovereign of our country, I certainly think, this could be a good thing on the drug war.

Narco business has done so much damage to our community , and I certainly think that eventually it will help a little bit.
I 've personally seen so many lives that ended in a hospital, jail or cemetery because of that..

Every little effort could help..!

Great news, all drug dealers with the exception of leonel hate being in the spotlight and don't like being watched. Like the dealers on the corner..... If you illuminate the place they stop coming around.

Do you know what is John 8:32?
Those are the words in the open bible of our Dominican shield.Check what they say..

But because you are so perturbed, and against that sacred policy , such a big liar, and a regular twister of our reality , you must be the BIGGEST anti-Dominican of all time we could have.. !

This is one more step for America to chip away any democracy DR currently has.

These Drones will be used by the CIA to suppress dissent and support tyrants in the future....

Get the drones out - shoot them down!

If any drone were to come in France, Uk,s airspace they would get shot down.

It might be a US drone or some from some invading country!

Politicians have lost their senses!

eauonline, I've watched for the last 12 years and have seen NO improvement,it has only gotten worse.

Dominican authorities are inbred entitlement morons that steal with impunity.

I've seen several dozen corrupt 'Generals' retired with pension where EVERYONE, with a brain, knows they should have gone to jail.

The latest 'General' caused a coup which is blatant treason. These are the supposed leader. They have no morals and are shameless.

The US wants nothing mnore than for them to stay there.

abc200, first who cares what the French think or do. second the UK is in the US learning how to fly these drones.

Unlike you, I prefer no one to get hurt or killed. with bullets, rockets or drugs.

I agree with GMiller261.

ABC200 - Please spare us of your buffoonery! Shooting down US drones? Really!!! I suppose that you will be the one commanding the guns...

Tell us your location so that we may put you out of your misery...

"The DR has NO democracy, it is a fourth world backwash transparently corrupt cesspool."

You mean, like the US? Looked at your political system recently? Better than the 3 Stooges!

Perhaps if the US dealt with their drug problem a little more intelligently, the rest of the world wouldn't be expected to solve it for them. Drones in the DR won't save a single kid in Detroit or Watts. (and let's be serious, nobody in the US gives a sh*t about the drug problems in the DR, Mexico, Columbia, Jamaica, or anywhere else)

Cabaretecanuck, no defense there. We have a dysfunctional congress, a running candidate that is severely out of touch with reality and local drug usage that must be dealt with "little more intelligently".

But I deal with that here.

I can assure you that some children will be saved here in the US and there in the DR.

Do you remember 10 years ago the 'drone' backlash. "They'll run into building, they'll fall out of the shy, they'll never help in fighting terrorism". Well they have done a great job in minimizing our armed forces death and have done a great disservice to terrorism.

The sickness that is in the US is spreading all over the world the US want to control everyone. It is not about drugs the main drug flow is being done by the CIA. They want to control the competition. They also want to spy and control every country. They can use these drones to spy and kill without conciseness or feeling it is like playing some video game.

In open country of over water no one gets killed when a drone is shot down.

It is prudent to shoot them down since they could crash and do damage or a deranged controller after his week end on drugs could easily target innocent people as he plays his ,video game, with other peoples lives.

The USA has a few drones in the air. The Dominican Republic has has far more on the ground, in chairs and on the floor. Whats all the fuss about?

There is a few drones over Pakistan as well and they have paid a big price on innocent lives. When a American kills a innocent farmer he automatically becomes a terrorist.
