Santo Domingo.- Nothing short of a bombshell is the revelation Thursday from the president of Dominican Republic’s major opposition PRD party, that he had refused Danilo Medina’s offer to be his running mate during the last electoral campaign.

Miguel Vargas affirmed that Medina's proposal was communicated ex PRD president Hatuey Decamps after a meeting with the now President elect, before tapping Margarita Cedeño as the vice presidential candidate. Decamps was Mejia’s campaign manager.

Vargas Maldonado made ??the revelation in a meeting at the Ranch Steak House restaurant, to leaders of his PRD faction from South region provinces, who pledged support for his presidential candidacy in 2016,

He said he flatly rejected the proposal because “all my eggs are placed in the basket of the PRD."

The PRD president detailed the causes which in his view led to his party’s defeat in the past elections, despite that Mejia’s candidacy was in a good position to win in the campaign’s final days. “The reasons for so many political errors of the PRD candidate product of his verbiage cannot be explained."

Generoso,

what did I tell you about the thinking in the PLD to coop a significant portion of the PRD forces and mend them into a powerful multi-decade National Party to govern a la those other democratic hegemonic parties in Japan, Sweden, Mexico, etc.

Hipolito and Miguel should both do the PRD a favor and resign their posts.

What MUMBO JUMBO!

The Veneer of SAINTHOOD has finally fallen of Danilo IF we are to believe Miguelito!

They are ALL Political Mercenary Prostitutes who only think about their own personal ambitions and to Hell with 10 million Dominicans!

If we had any decency left as people we would go on National Strike to have the elections declared rigged and have a new national Transparent election conducted under International Supervision!

Danilo Medina told since the beginning that he was open to make alliance with ANY POLITICAL PARTY AND THAT HIS INTEREST WAS TO MAKE A GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL CONSENSUS (!)

Not as DENSE as you!

Offering the vice presidency behind close doors is not an alliance with the party!

I wonder how much Lie-onel, Miguelito’s BOSS, offered him to reject the offer.

Stopping being an APOLOGIST for INDECENCY!

Hey Josean why didn't the Hipolito offer it the VP to Miguel so they both could it unite the party and be the big winners. no instead went about saying that he doesn't need Miguelito as he calls it to win the presidency (BIG MISTAKE) in politics everybody counts and that the only reason why he is not president today. Like they say don't count your eggs before the are in the basket. This PPH group were already appointing people to be ministers of such and such government agencies. What a bunch amateurs.

Wow, this was a clever act on the part of the PLD, a seed of destruction planted into the PRD. No wonder the PRD is on the slippery slope.

"Like they say don't count your eggs before the are in the basket."

No, that actual saying is Don't Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch!

Who Said It: Aesop

When: c. 570 B.C.

The Story behind It: This saying occurs in the fable "The Milkmaid and Her Pail." Patty, a farmer's daughter, is daydreaming as she walks to town with a pail of milk balanced on her head. Her thoughts: "The milk in this pail will provide me with cream, which I will make into butter, which I will sell in the market, and buy a dozen eggs, which will hatch into chickens, which will lay more eggs, and soon I shall have a large poultry yard. I'll sell some of the fowls and buy myself a handsome new gown and go to the fair, and when the young fellows try to make love to me, I'll toss my head and pass them by." At that moment, Patty tossed her head and lost the pailful of milk. Her mother admonished, "Do not count your chickens before they are hatched."

Can Vargas substantiate the offer, or it was just verbal? We have to wait for Hatuey's response who was working for Hipoloco, but who cares anyway, if true it was a wise move by Danilo Medina.
Between Hipoloco and Miguel there is maybe two brain cells together as they are both pretty dense.
Both should commit supakku or retire, stop trying to catapult themselves to fame and glory, on the backs of the poorest Dominicans.
The "viejo robles" of the PRD should be cut down, and the "pinos nuevos" should take over, like many young ones such as Luis Abinader the losing VP candidate, who unlike Hipoloco, had a credible offer to voters.

Professor,

While we are on the topic of stepping aside, when will the PLD finally refresh it's top leadership, whose rein is way beyond the shelf life of their own bylaws.....and shouldn't Danilo be the president of the party as Lie-onel was when he was Capo di tutti cap?

On the topic of lack of Gray Matter, even when you allegedly have it apparently if you don't use its about the same as not having it at all!

"Negative legacy for President Fernandez"

According to El Caribe, some analysts are saying that President Leonel Fernandez will leave a negative legacy at the end of his eight years in power, although they agree that under his mandate, the administration has maintained political and macroeconomic stability.

Political commentator Rosario Espinal said that while she believes that Fernandez is a talented politician, he has missed an opportunity for Dominican democracy and some people have pointed out that at the end of both of his periods in government, several institutions were in the red.

Sociologist Cesar Perez thinks that institutionally his government was negative and disappointing while economist Miguel Ceara Hatton said that Fernandez' period of office was characterized by the deinstitutionalization of the country.

Meanwhile, economist Pavel Isa said that the head of state would leave a fundamentally negative legacy especially in terms of institutionalism and the cost of the debt.

Hippo should create a milita to destabilize the government. That will force a new election. The PRD should seize control of the country in areas they control. Force the PLD to assert their power. If the PRD seized the border areas with Haiti they can further destabilize the Danilo government by allowing Haitians access into Santo Domingo.
