Santo Domingo.- The 22 year-old woman subjected to a heart transplant Wednesday at the Cedimat General Hospital remains stable guarded condition.

According a hospital statement issued Sunday, Stefani Moreno Vargas, mother of two and native of the impoverished barrio Sabana Perdida, is doing well and ingesting liquid food.

Cedimat director Jose A. Castaños Guzman said the patient’s doing well and yesterday asked to be bathed and her hair washed, while the center’s spokespersons Dashira Martinez said the evaluations of her various organs found they remain within normal ranges.

Moreno became the first patient to ever receive a heart transplant in Dominican Republic.

Whether cyclosporine is available in the DR or not, is not the problem. Who is going to pay for it after this couragious woman leaves hospital? Jose A. Castaños Guzman certainly not, he is most likely looking for a well paid position in the US, preferably Miami. Same for all medics on the surgery staff.

@anthonyC You have to ask me that? A woman with little money to spend, to go into a hospital in this country, to undergo surgery that has not been done before in this country! She must have a loy of courage.

She is a victim. She is lucky to have a 2nd chance at life handed to her. She is using her basic survival instinct.

She is not Courageous. To use the word in reference to her is a disservice to the truly courageous people.
