Santiago, DR.– The bodies of two of the three Dominican fishermen missing since Sunday after going out from a Monte Cristi beach were recovered by Dominican authorities off the coast of Cap Haitien, Haiti’s second largest city.

According to the Monte Cristi emergency management director, Maximo Ventura, the third fisherman was found alive but in critical condition. The victims were identified the as Deivy Peralta, 40, and Martires Palomino, the captain of the 23-foot fishing boat.

Ventura said the authorities and the emergency management office were told that the three fishermen knew that the boat’s motor needed repair but decided to set out anyway. They also ignored the warning of the National Meteorology Office that small boats should remain in port due to prevailing bad weather.

Marine history - the world over - is bespeckled with the souls of fishermen who were just doing what they needed to do in order to make their living.

Ruego a encontrar la paz en los brazos de Dios, hijos de la mar.
