Santo Domingo.- Next Wednesday has been declared "Day of Mourning" by 63 organizations, institutions and groups to protest the violence which has left dozens of women dead so far this year.
The day includes a gathering in Congress to call the authorities’ attention, because in the organizers’ view, "its indolence is also evidenced by the increase in crimes against women."
The organizations call on society, especially women to take to the streets dressed in black or gray black, white, gray, yellow or other color to express solidarity with pain as a sign of mourning, to show condolences for all women who’ve been murdered by their partners or former partners.
"Never before has social action been so needed to proclaim a strong halt on the epidemic of gender crimes," the flyers distributed to the media say.

Give Josean "Cadena perpetua" o a firing squad as a choice. LOL
Persons responsible for murder should be given the same choice. No possible lose to society if they are gone from the scene.

The killing of women has nothing to do any failed policies of any political party, In fact of the 31000 or so people who met violent deaths , less than 300 were women so as I pointed out before ,,some weeks ago , much better to be a woman in the DR .
I would like to see the figures on how many women kill men so we can also have a day of mourning ..I have not seen Dominican women treated worse than in any other country ..but no violence is needed against women anywhere ...

this is really sad, violence against women is one of worst type of crimes. These animals that hurt a woman don't have mothers, sisters or daughters?

"The killing of women has nothing to do any failed policies of any political party,'
Rickey see if you find the word POLICY in this statement by the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the Dominican Republic, who I am sure is in just as in tune as you are with Day to Day Dominican Life!
"Jimenez says gender-based violence is uncontrollable"
"BASICALLY ATTRIBUTED THE PROBLEM TO A LACK OF MONEY"
The Attorney general of the Republic yesterday admitted that the problem of gender and domestic violence has reached uncontrollable levels and the lack of economic resources and other limitations preventing MORE EFFECTIVE POLICIES to combat feminicide and violence.

Radhamés Jiménez Peña said that the public ministry still has not been successful in stopping the problem, although it managed to reduce rates of feminicides comparatively in relation to last year. "There is a minimum reduction, but that’s not what we want," he added.

lack of education gives cause to this.

Ricky Dicky I understand u are not a dominican, however u must come from a similar society with the same lack of education.
The reason for this is above all lack of moral norms, which again is due to a disfunctional political regime in DR to establish such norms.
I suggest you start lobotomizing and castrating all males for a start and see how that works out the 50years.

This typifies the Dominican Republic male macho entitlement mentality.
Instead of fixing this heinous behavior they'll have a "Day of Mourning". Failed country.
as above " start lobotomizing and castrating all males"

sorry again to inform those who write without looking at the statistics , just over 300 women die from violent crime in a total of 31,000 ,,this is based on the official world figures of 31 deaths in every 100,000 here and on a population here of 10 million .Well , of course , men should not do any violent action against the women or children or the aged but when the figure is less than 1 % , I think Dominicans men are obviously much more at risk .
and yes Josean , I play golf at many courses here in DR including sometimes at Casa de Campo and yes I shop in Ave Duarte and Ave Mella and not in Narco and I visit my friends regularly in various parts of SD, la Romana , la Vega and Cabrera and in Bani and I teach at a two poor schools , on a temporary basis and I go to an Episcopalian church and I use the metro and buses ..so I would say I have a very good idea of day to day life here ,,thank you for saying so .It must be hard for you to comment from Harlem
