Santo Domingo.- The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) is implementing a pilot pedestrianization program covering the central perimeter of its main campus as of today, according to university rector Mateo Aquino Febrillet.

He said that the students would now be able to enjoy a traffic-free space in the central area of the campus, thus contributing to lower carbon monoxide pollution levels.

“All is in place for the pedestrianization to start this Monday, as part of the campus reorganization plan”, stated Febrillet.

Vehicles may be parked free of charge in all the street parking areas, and for a fee in the indoor parking garages like the one built opposite the Administrative Tower and the new University Cafeteria formally opened by president Leonel Fernández on Friday.

The University Council established a fee of just RD$10 for parking in the indoor garage.
