Santo Domingo.- The National Police arrested a man dressed in police uniform who posed as a colonel to con Dominicans and foreigners by threatening them for a range of infractions, saying they would be deported. The man was named as Marcelino Díaz Bautista, who was in possession of an unlicensed revolver.

Díaz Bautista was arrested in the community of Loma Mirona, at a building project directed by Belgian citizen Ulrich Herpe, 56.

The police informed that the fake colonel had tried to extort RD$125,000 by threatening to deport several Haitian laborers on the grounds that they didn’t have passports or work permits. He also threatened Van Herpe with deportation, saying there was an international arrest warrant against him.

Díaz is believed to have extorted money from several builders for not having the corresponding permits.

The police are calling on other victims of extortion to report to the authorities and identify the man who posed as a police colonel.

If the ones who lost money go to the police, will they disclose the actual causes for getting blackmailed?

Shake down is the national past time of those with any authority so why would it not be imitated by those with no authority?

We've had a few pass by our neighborhood... You just have to alert your neighbors and question the SOB, and actually look at the ID they show you, don't just glance at it.

Damn Danilo, I hope the new president has the same commonsense as you.......lol , it's that simple.

Like, if an authority doesn't answer correctly and I was pulled over in a unauthorized manner, I would have him at gun point... Immediately!!!! Especially in the Dominican republic, where the car jackers pull you over with out any back-up and in dark areas....Making it easy, to pull out and BUCK-DEM-ONE just for good measures.

Once again I congratulate the police on the arrest of a thug. Why not celebrate something done right and positive rather than all the BS name calling? Should carefully investigate all his past calls via telephone records and all associates and live ins, car rentals – go for the complete package.

Hrmm a man posing as a police officer trying to extort money? Sounds like almost all of them. How is this guy any different? He has a police uniform and a gun and is extorting money illegally.Doesn't sound any different from the rest. This is the national past time.

@papad0c/haiti4ever,

Guys, your comments paint you as much racist as all the other racists on these DT blogs.

It is sad, because I thought that you were much better than that!

Racism does come in all colors; so does IQ and intellect, or the lack thereof.

How about some intelligent comments for a change! You actually think that there is no corruption in Haiti!!! If so, how naive are you.

If you pee against the wind; you are going to get wet!

Mwa ha ha ha

The mother, Salima Hernandez, said they wanted a better future and education for her kids. She said she didn't worry about their legal status until she learned that they would not be able to continue their education without a government ID or Social Security number.

When he signed the order, Obama said the changes will make immigration policy "more fair, more efficient and more just."
The shift on the politically volatile issue of immigration policy elicited praise from Latino leaders, while Republicans reacted with outrage, saying the move amounts to amnesty -- a negative buzzword among conservatives -- and usurps congressional authority.

When someone insults my country, I do not counter-attack against his origins, country, or culture; I attack the individual racist! The opposite, mixed with political power creates wars, feeds poverty, and fosters genocides.

There is both good and bad everywhere, and in everyone.

They are lucky not many hatians come on this site , it could go far , they are aware that there s a problem .
