Santo Domingo.- The director of the Department for the Prevention of Administrative Corruption (DPCA), Hotoniel Bonilla, says that his office had received 254 reports between 2004 and 2012 , and that 47 of these cases have been sent to justice.

Presenting a report on the work of his department during this period, Bonilla defended the fight against corruption and the results of his management at the DPCA.

He said that when he took office there were 121 reports and that 263 cases had been filed.

Reasons for filing include that the facts investigated did not constitute a penal action, there was no prejudice to state interest, or that the facts investigated were discovered during a previous process.

The cases mentioned in his report include Plan Renove, the greenhouse affair, and the case against former prosecutor Víctor Céspedes Martínez, at a cost of RD$5 million. He also mentioned the processes involving the Dominican Air Force turbines, the CDEEE, the use of funds from sovereign bonds and the RD$14M fraud case involving the purchase of onions by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Some of the cases were dismissed, others discharged on all counts.

The Plan Renove case ended in definitive jail sentences, but some of those involved were pardoned by president Leonel Fernández.

He have done nothing zero nada. This guy along with the attorney genaral have been
two zero on the left (dos cero a la izquierda). But you wont know who is more weak or incopetent of these two. He is trying hard to keep a botella. On the bright side the attorney general fired himself a few month ago when he sent a letter to Danilo stating that he will no longer continue at the post of AG after the new president take office. Like he didnt got the memo stating that people wtih shady record will not be part of the new cabinet.

Leonel has condoned and inspired 8 years of free-for-all theft by anyone with any authority at all levels who were members of his mafia PLD party. The rest were subject to scrutiny and prosecution. The most absurd thing is his total denial that his government was corrupt at all!

Hopefully Danilo is the good twin and I'm the evil one... we'll find out tomorrow, or in the following weeks.

According to TV interviews and news reports, Danilo appears to know what he wants to do.
He has already demonstrated that he'll not stand for corruption and injustice.

The man is smart and has a clear goal as to how best to tackle our economic and social shortcomings. I think he'll surprise many, including the die-hard pessimists of this site, by standing up to the generals and those with strong influence in government.

We may be in for a very pleasant and welcomed change in how our nation functions for the next four years! Danilo is his own man and won't be swayed in the handling of his brand of government by Leonel or Margarita. ...I have a good feeling about our near future. We will prosper as never before!

Yes he is smart and high on integrity. He is probably the only PLD Central commited member not to be a (US) Millionaire. He only own an apartment and two vehicle. He was the only big time politician in DR not to be involved in the Wiki leak scandal in fact he was portraited in good way.

On the personal level I cant stand socialist like Danilo Medina nevertheless I cannot lie when I see the truth something I wish some here learn how to do. I wish the new president Danilo Medina the very best and hope that he take us into a bridge of prosperity for all Dominicans.

A Marxist Leninist Maoist is little more than a socialist Mr. Bircher!

Vacanos, well said.Except, socialism does not equate with comunism.

Socialism means we take good care of our citizenry. We educate, provide medical care, family planning, decent housing, and teach to make the best use of what we have.
It is government at the service of the people, not the other way around. It is the best system, by far, in a democratic society.
Capitalism and socialism, together, makes for a very gratifying and happy marriage!
