Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina headed yesterday’s traditional military parade marking the anniversary of the Restoration of the Republic every 16th August.

Medina arrived at Santo Domingo’s Malecón boulevard at 5:28 p.m. accompanied by first lady Candy Montilla and followed a few minutes later by vice president Margarita Cedeño de Fernández.

The president and VP received military honors before the parade started.

Medina and Cedeño were also accompanied by armed forces minister Sigfrido Pared Pérez, national police chief Major General José Armando Polanco Gómez, and other high ranking officials.

City Mayor Roberto Salcedo was also present, together with national ethics commission president Marino Vinicio Castillo and deputy Pelegrín Castillo.

The parade by representatives of all branches of the armed forces also included air and maritime maneuvers watched by the president, who is also commander in chief of the armed forces and the national police.

Thousands of people turned out to watch the event, which ended at 6:30 p.m.

Isn't this cute? As if the DR needs a military because it might be invaded by Haitians some day!
The Military only serves to do the dirty work as enforcers for the Politicos.

What bothers me the most is seeing the military and clergy present at every function, no matter what the occasion.
