Santo Domingo.- City Mayor Roberto Salcedo has announced plans to open childcare centers in several poor neighborhoods including La Ciénaga and Gualey.
The initiative seeks to care for children between the ages of two and six while their mothers are out at work, said Salcedo.
Reporting on the August 2011-July 2012 period, the mayor listed the actions carried out during the last year of his administration, which include the creation of public spaces, free gyms, improvements to social services, and the promotion of patrimonial values and land management of large areas.
He also mentioned the progress that has been made in the urban cleansing system, investments in communities via the Participative Budget program and the strengthening of institutional mechanisms.
He declared that the implementation of urban policies was “an expression of the experience generated by the Mayor’s office in the search for solutions to the everyday problems of the citizenry, in a quest for improving their quality of life”.
He said that his administration had met the objectives set out in the Strategic Plan for 2015.
