SANTO DOMINGO.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) issued a nationwide alert on Tropical Storm Isaac, which is expected to bring downpours in the country Thursday night.
The Meteorology Office forecasts overcast skies and scattered showers for the entire country Friday, while COE director Juan Manuel Mendez urged citizens to keep abreast of the storm’s possible impact, through official bulletins.
He said first responders coordinate actions with the Armed Forces Ministry and other agencies to mitigate the effects of potential landslides the rains could unleash.
Mendez provided the information in a National Palace press conference yesterday, accompanied by Onamet director Gloria Ceballos, and Civil Defense director Luis Luna Paulino.
T.S. Isaac formed in the Eastern Caribbean yesterday.

Isaac may hit DR, Haiti, Cuba and Florida!! Keep an eye on this one, it has nasty potential.
You still have some time to make sure your family and friends have a safety plan. Make sure you’re stocked up on emergency supplies, keep your cell phones totally charged (if you have one), pool your resources and devise a way to keep in touch, and to keep track of one another. Let any out-of-country relations know where you are and what your plan is. Above all, please don't do anything silly that may put yourself at risk.
This looks like Isaac going to pack a punch. Manténgase a salvo mis amigos. Nuestras oraciones y pensamientos están con todos ustedes.
