Santo Domingo.- Two dead, one missing, 13,110 evacuated, 97 communities cut off and 868 homes damaged, left the rains from Tropical Storm Isaac throughout the Dominican Republic, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported Sunday night.

The dead are former Villa Altagracia mayor Pedro Peralta, and Wester Alcántara Aristides, who were swept by the swelled rivers Yaguaza and Haina, in circumstances still being investigated.

COE director Juan Manuel Mendez said the storm’s rains didn’t cause the deaths directly, and instead blamed the people’s carelessness for trying to cross rivers during rising water.

Although the official didn’t identify the missing person, he said it’s the brother of a colonel who jumped into the river from the bridge at Los Pilones in Azua yesterday afternoon and his body has yet to be found.

The communities affected by the flooding of rivers and streams are in Ramírez Sánchez, Samaná, Pedernales, Monte Plata, Barahona, San José de Ocoa, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macoris, San Juan de la Maguana, Azua, Duarte, Monsignor Nouel, Independence, Peravia, Santo Domingo provinces and the National District.

Although the two deaths are very sad for all those concerned I am very surprised there were not more casualties ,,,it was dangerous driving in the rain and even dangerous being outside .and I saw a few people on their rooves trying to make quick repairs in very dangerous conditions ,,
The authorities did a wonderful job ..clearing up the mess in el Malecon and on Autopista de las Americas in very quick time ..and there were crews working all over the effected areas as shown on local TV ..

I think I may have posted elsewhere but I was amazed on friday nightat about 10.30 when I parked my car in the Jose Reyes carpark , to see all the water cascading down Jose Reyes and 19 de Marzo , like a river all the way from 27 de Febrero ..it was going so fast ..There was not a shop or cafe or colmado open in Conde or my part of zona colonial ..but there were several crews of , I think , rescue people working near las Mercedes church ..
I think , dont be silent ,,that all Dominicans living abroad or in the DR should be told the news that the authorities did a very good job and sorry that Josean was not here to be able to report the good news himself . ..

"Althought the official didn't ID the missing person,he said it's the brother of a colonel who jumped into the river from a bridge at Los Pilones in Azua yester afternoon and his body has yet to be found"
How the hell does he know it is the person who he claims to be w/o further knowlege of name or
the body in question?
Is this person of more importance than the forementioned, by his Military title's relative? Are
they above the law and have to be ID as such ? DR will never change its primitive mentality of glorifying a military title & uniform, w/o any previous military action,or hero of any military campaign,Nor would they w/o previous knowlege of how many civilians he killed to achieve such title,be given such a heroism standing.
You might think am anti DR military, and you are correct. These are not professionals but legal thugs in uniform and to top it all they all look like gorillas so the y act as one.

My God. Some of you guys will use any platform to run off topic and slather your hate-speech agenda. Why not start posting on the weather stories too? I'm sure you'll find someone to blame for the presence of clouds in the sky as well.

That's why its called FREEDOM of EXPRESSION and your right to have a diffrence of opinion, as you are exercising in your commentary!

@JOSEAN

"Freedom of expression" is only valid within the context of mutual respect. Your "freedom of Expression" is Nul & Void when you use it to insult others personally. Your agenda is political and you use every chance you get to ram it in everyones throat, even in the weather blog you bring up your hatred of anything PLD, and you openly insult others that do not have your opinion. The sky is grey... That is the PLD's fault. And it is not grey, it is purple!

You are the town clown and always will be!
Go take the metro!

Isn't it great that even you have the ability to express your obssesive opinions on the Ramblings of a clown!

I'm not expressing an opinion though. I'm expressing my dismay at the shallowness, monotonous, & unilingual tripe, and how everything under the sun is fodder for blame. Freedom of speech is far more than automatic gain-saying of what others say.

I do respect that you have an opinion. And I'd defend your right to express it. But the same drum beaten in each and every topic within DT? Come on my friend. I'm sure you have something important to say, so keep saying it in the proper forum. Otherwise you become Chicken Little and no more than an annoyance, and just a bothersome noise that no one listens to. Start a blog. Open a forum. Just keep your comments on topic for heaven's sake.

I do thank you for your interpretation 'free speech', but in turn let me offer the thought that, "Just because you can, does not mean you should", and, "It is surely far better to say nothing, and have people think you're a fool, than it is to open your mouth & prove it".

Time & Place lad.

The bottom line is.Why aren't the Military involved in rescuing these defenseless people? .They have the equipment and are getting paid for it .Leave the rifles at the barracks and do some "humanitarian action" for a change, instead of kiking defensless civialians in the ass!
I bet they are all under a strong refuge and drinking rum or beer while their country men/women
suffer.Some piece of work?

What is so difficult about ignoring the "so called off topic speech" you don’t like?

Apparently, it is not my method but rather my message that you chose to attack via the subterfuge of "proper forum!" Who gave you the right to determine what my choice of forum should be?

If you don’t like what I say, rebut it or ignore it, it’s your choice just like it’s my choice when, where and how I choose to express myself.

If when I “open my mouth” and I sound ignorant or foolish, that’s MY choice and MY problem, why are you so concerned for MY image?

If my commentary is so nonsensical why do you and others get so riled up and turn your underwear in knots writing several paragraphs per post to respond?

It doesn’t seem logical to me, to respond to ignorance, foolishness and stupidity!

Is it that maybe in my “ramblings” there might be a morsel of truth you don’t want others to read?

Is that why you and the other open and closeted PLDers try to use the oldest trick in the book; try to discredit the messenger when you can’t deal with the message?

So let’s make a deal I will keep posting and you just keep ignoring ok!

This is the TIME and PLACE condescending MUCHACHO!

I don't want anyone banned per se. I am for Freedom of Speech. However ranting ad nauseum about political party issues when the subject is vigilanty justice, is just nothing more than an annoyance.

This whole I deal of, "I'll do what I want and if you don't like it then don't look" mentality is just juvenile. What I'd like to have is a commentary section that is on topic. Some people obviously have difficulty with that concept and are bent of disruption no matter what the cost to others. It's just selfish.

Many times I've seen unfair and unfounded disparaging comments about the mentality and scope of the Dominican people. However, this kind of ego-maniacal behaviour only venerates that mindset to the outside world. I fail to understand how someone wants to fight injustice and then invites people to bugger off if they don't like what they see. Who's listening then? It's just spam.

Maybe DT should have a look into content and context as well as profanity.

I thought the topic was about the deaths and damage caused by a tropical storm, not vigilante justice or vigilante censorship!
