Azua, Dominican Republic.- Traffic was provisionally restored Sunday night across  the bridge at Los Pilones, the only major road link between the country’s southwest region and the capital.

Public Works Ministry crews worked during more than 12 hours  with backhoes, bulldozers and dump trucks filled with materials the voids swept away by the Ocoa river, and which had weakened the entire area  from the road to the abutments on the east side of the structure.

Traffic was impossible Saturday afternoon as the river level peaked from the torrential rains over most of the country, from Tropical Storm Isaac.

I am sad that I am the first one to say well done to all the authorities and the workers who got this road up and usable again ,,in very quick time .I read elsewhere that this bridge has been a constant problem so I hope it is a priority for the new government ..Bani really had a tough time over the week end ..but again I am told it was only the poor barrios that suffered ...same as in the capital
