Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Monday found two hurdles to Dominican Republic’s advance toward a developed country, when he was forced to instruct all officials designated before August 16 to continue in their posts to avert a disruption of government business, and Armed Forces minister Sigfrido Pared admitted  said the Head of State is concerned with the number of military and police agents who’re at the service of individuals.

Presidency press chief Roberto Rodriguez said Medina wants every official designated by decree to remain in their posts to ensure continuity and stability of the performance of public functions.

The extent of the President was announced at a press conference Monday afternoon in the Hall of the National Palace.

Police and military

The Minister of the Armed Forces said the President is concerned about the number of military and police officials who despite getting paid work for private interests.

Pared said the Administration, in coordination with the National Police and the Forces Armed, aim to reduce the number of escorts and use as many of those members in their intended functions as possible.

The military official spoke to the media after a National Palace meeting with Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo, and police chief Jose Polanco. "The meeting focused on the management of escorts for the officials, but the final decision will be made by president Danilo Medina."

It is a question of some time, before the sh.t hits the fan. Medina is giving them the rope to hang themselves on.
The removal of the thousands of police and military doing personal gofer work, for useless bureaucrats shall end soon.
Party is over.... balsa de pendejos.

Getting rid of these "personal bodyguards" on the public purse is necessary. The equally pressing, if not far more important long term goal, however, is establishing a sufficient number of able Civil Service Administrators that will mange the transition period between Presidencies. It should not be so difficult to bring about. Being that this current Presidential transition is taking place within the same party, makes it all the more reveling; one would think it easier to manage, no?

Boyz,

They are talking about insuring the continuation of services so there is no gap from the time someone is let go, until another turkey take their new post.

Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if all just left right now.... The already archaic system would only further colapse on itself and nothing would move in the country.

The firings are coming.... just be patient and do like most of us do.... HOPE for the best.

The soldier/police private service issue is another problem... That should free some money for the promised 4% of GDP on education??? The lowest on the totem pole fall first before the FAT cats at the top... That is common practice world wide and in all types of governements.

Well, the soldiers/police employed as such are supposedly paid by the private parties that employ them? I would love to see proof of this in Govt bank account numbers.

Why do I have to "pick a side" and not just side with what in my view is correct?

That means not being in the tank, drinking the Kool-Aid and applauding everything blindly.

It’s called participatory Democracy not lay down and take it!

'Unique' new rat species discovered

A species of rat has been discovered that cannot gnaw or chew and represents a new step in rodent evolution.

The shrew-like animal, joseanPaucidentomys vermidax, has fang-like upper incisors which are useless for gnawing and no back teeth. It lives exclusively on Metro-earthworms.

JP. vermidax was found in remote rainforest on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

Very true Dread!

Idiocy (a.k.a. election propaganda) perpetuates itself in the form of Josean!

When levelled (a rarity) he sometimes makes sense and is a good source of information. But most of the time.. He ties the purple crap to anyhting in the sky, without care or respect for other's opinion, or for any sense of relevency to the actual blog. DT without him is like a town without its idiot.

At least when you write something, it is level-headed, and you show respect for others opinions unless attacked. This clown still thinks that I vote purple, when I could not give a flying flock of ducks. When your choice is limited, you always go to the lesser evil without wasting your vote, and then hope for the best!

This Danilo dude needs to be given a chance to prove himself. The Governement hill is steep and the walls of corruption at the top are even thicker.

Dr. Dread I will let you clarify the poor soul’s confusion I don't want to appear “without care or respect for other's opinion" which is something I have a have fought my entire life for, the right for everyone to freely express themselves.

Although, I will add that many confuse the right to our own opinions with the non-right to our own FACTS!

How did you fight for "freedom of expression"??? By trying to overpower any opinion that is not in line with your vision of purple narco-mafia doomsday?

I know from experience that people like you are all mouth to inflate their spineless corpse and sagging ball sack, but always a no-show when the poo hits the fan!

A poodle with a big bark, but no bite!

Tell us Josean, what do you actually do for a living? With your mouth you could be Fidel's Information Minister.

And stop kissing Dread's behind.... He is not a doctor... he is a fellow dude from the island next door! And we like him just like that; unpolluted.

Here is one small way that you may not know since you are relative new member at DT,

Concatchero you joined 28 January 2011, 10:04 AM and you are Member #: 6,912

josean joined 13 December 2007, 8:56 AM (although many of us had be posting before this option was made available) Member #: 76

During these soon to be 5 years many have called for my censorship and that of others as well. I am on recorded condemning the CENSORSHIP of anyone even my most virulent critics, although on occasion I have complained about the death threats of some to DT.

I would never go as far as making threats unless someone first threatened me... I would do it off the blog and I can deliver.

How about this: "Josean, decicating 4 more years to objectivity".

Call a spade "A Spade", the corrupt, The Corrupt, across all boundaries, anywhere, but you should not label one single group or affiliation. Yes corruption stinks, and it takes away from what could be a great country, but not all is black and white. There is some good... Why don't you point these out?

"I would do it off the blog and I can deliver."

Kind of an ignorant and possible incriminating thing to say on the world wide web, but we will chalk it off to macho hyperbole.

PS

I never accused you of being one of the originators of the death threats unless you have more than one screen name as per your admission "Under my present pseudo-name?"

"What ever happened to your objectivity?"

Objectivity in the forming of opinions is for the most part a myth if people are honest with themselves and others.

There is nothing wrong with subjectivity as long as you can substantiate it!

"Threaten me and the see what I will send you in your email" is what I said.
Oh, and read it as you wish! I know that you have no objectivity.

I just said that I can deliver; you'll just have to trust me on that. I don't like bullies! I take the war to them, but I never never start the threats. I call a spade a spade!

Josean can you say here that you are not part of the PRD party and that you rather have Hipolito in office than anyone else? If your answer is no I will be your best friend on this post, but if your answer is not no and I mean I don't want to hear any other answer other than the true, then you have nothing to say about the PLD party members because you do not qualify to critize your political oponents.
