Official commits a crime will do time, top prosecutor warns

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Domínguez on Tuesday warned there’ll be no impunity in the Dominican Republic, and any public official, minister or ex minister who committed corruption will be dealt with accordingly.

He said regardless of the crime, if prosecutors determine there was corruption, “we will act, indicting those responsible.”

"We’re not going to offend, we will not put on a show, we will not make this a circus," Dominguez told reporters during a news conference to announce the indictment against ex Prisons director Mario Acosta, accused of bribery.

The official said the Justice Ministry has to set an example, for which it cannot allow a prosecutor to be the first to violate the law. "The way isn’t to fire him, he’s required to go to prison, anyone who’s man enough to do the wrong thing and take what’s not theirs, has to be man enough to accept his responsibility."
