SANTO DOMINGO.- Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez trusts president Danilo Medina to attack government corruption and said the chief executive should be given the chance to prove with deeds what he promised in his proclamation speech. "Give him a chance to prove with facts what he promised in his speech, I'd prefer to wait and confide that it will be so."
In this regard the prelate said the President had been prepared to hold this post, but stressed that Tropical Storm Isaac’s passing near the country "may test his ability to improvise solutions."
The Cardinal said Medina should be trusted, "until such time that he doesn’t show a willingness to confront it (corruption)." He said there are "old" evils because they haven’t been dealt with swiftly.
Santo Domingo’s Archbishop spoke during a news conference to unveil the draft to amend Law 139-97, which if passed would keep Juan Pablo Duarte’s birth date on January 26, and the Epiphany on January 6.

"Catholic Church trusts Medina will fight government corruption "
And I trust the Catholic Church to...actually I don't trust the catholic Church at all. The Spaniards have a saying..everyone in Spain follows the church, some with candles, some with sticks..count me among the latter. That the state religion of the late Roman Empire is still viable is an indictment of the backwardness of her followers.

“If Danilo Medina fought corruption, he would gain credibility and new allies”
“Important critics such as Guillermo Moreno and Hamlet Hermann have begun to put in doubt the seriousness of the promises made by Danilo Medina to combat corruption”
“President Danilo Medina you will lose popular support if you continue with the policy of “Wiping the slate clean slate and new account"(“borrón y cuenta nueva”.)”
“The prosecuting of corrupt officials from the last Government would give much credibility to the president and would allow him to win support for his proposals and programs.”
“The President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, with whom Danilo met, has prosecuted dozens of corrupt members of her own party.”
Come on Danilo, show as much testicular fortitude as your admired “Comadre” Dilma!

What could be more corrupt than the sale of forgiveness for money, after convincing the ignorant and gullible masses of the existence of hell and and their invisible agent in the sky?
If Danelo is serious about fighting corruption, he should tear up the Concordat, and send these parasites to their own "country", Vatican City.

Mr. de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez, who still seems to think the majority of the world is member of his sect. Please tell him that there are about 450 sects worldwide (if not more) and that the power of his sect is waning. The reason? People do not beleave leaders who rape thier underage children (and those over age as well, given a chance). As Roy Stone mentioned, all RC priests have thier own country, extradite them to the Vatican! Free the world of this dangerous sect.

Show me a cure for cancer, and I will show you the cure for the state of disarray, political corruption, socio-anarchy, crime and economy chaos in the DR. Cheap-rehearsed political rhetoric is the trade mark of this administration as it was in the previous one.

ingle23,
There are many cures for various cancers. Seven out of ten children are cured of cancer. Testicular cancer, Hodgkin's disease, and many cases of leukemia can all be cured in adults with chemotherapy, most skin cancers are cured with surgery, and many cases of thyroid cancer and cancer of the larynx are cured with radiotherapy. Bio-medical scientists have many achievements (despite hindrance from the church) but still have a long way to go.
You suggest praying for your "beloved land". Give me just one scientifically-authenticated example where prayer has had any more effect than a placebo.

Cardinal Carlo Martini says Church '200 years behind'
Italian Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini has described the Roman Catholic Church as being "200 years behind" the times.
The cardinal died on Friday, aged 85.
Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera has published his last interview, recorded in August, in which he said: "The Church is tired... our prayer rooms are empty."
Martini, once tipped as a future pope, urged the Church to recognise its errors and to embark on a radical path of change, beginning with the Pope.
