Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Radhames Jimenez on Monday said a lack of funds has halted the creation of the National Police’s Crime Scene Investigation Dept., but hopes it will approved in next year’s budget.

Article 101 of the Justice Ministry Statutory Law states that the creation of the " All police activities of crime investigation and prosecution will be the exclusive responsibility of the National Police Technical Investigation Dept."

Civil society organizations have expressed support for the creation of the Technical Dept., for which prominent figures were called to a dialogue to promote its materialization.

What a joke ! What is needed first, is for the police to go to the crime scenes.

"More money"

Try more intelligence and no transparent corruption.

Never, ever happen.

I could see them now, taking measurements with some heel-2-toe action while writing it down on a composition book at the same time talking with their mouths full while eating a plate of longanisa, ceso frito y mangu.

what a joke. The police do not even investigate now. They ask no questions. They make no calls. What would they do with all the new sophisticated equipment? I will tell you. Exactly the same thing they did with the all the cruisers they received equipped with computers- they pieced them out for money. Why do you think no world wide law enforcement agency will ever send the DR one cent in equipment of donations for the police. They are just a group of ignorant uneducated thugs, who are legally exempt from prosecution for extortion and bribery. What a complete joke.

I suppose the best example of equipment that was supposed to assist in stopping lawlessness is the use of cameras ..For thos who are able to walk in Conde you wil see that they are there are very fewe, none are working and most point straight down and not along the street ..I have seen no others around Parque Independencia o Parque Colon ..so what happened to them

The DR should start with a stronger reliable more honest police force, court system and tougher prisons to house the convicted.

It is not true that the police do not investigate ,,they always do if they think there is some money in it for them ..so always good to offer a reward ..but a simple visit to the office of detectives even in any major city will show what little technical support the detectives have
