Can someone tell me how a person born in New York and raised in California is the pride of the Dominican Republic? This country had next to nothing to do with his development through the years other than have in Dominican parents (who live in New York).

I was a very young lad,(9), when my parents and I emigrated to the US... Except for very brief periods of time, I have lived here all of my life.
For unexplained reasons, I've never felt "American". Not that I don't feel blessed for the opportunities this great nation has enriched me with, but, it ain't home, the DR is.
That's where I feel confortable, happy and free. It's peculiar kinds of troubles and shortcomings, notwithstanding...Home is where the heart is.!

THIS is a VERY IGNORANT comment, Typical from the Ignorant people that post here WITHOUT INVESTIGATING Domincian CULTURE, The ONLY difference Bettween Sanchez and anybody on the Island is that he was born on USA, THAT'S IT!! the FACT IS that his ENTIRE blood line is 100% DOMINICAN, just like His culture and even the Food he grew up EATING, ALL DOMINICAN from day ZERO of his life! he could have waited to make the Team for USA However HE CHOSE to run for Dominican Republic, even before he had the Gold Medal on 2004, he was world champion and could have chosen USA and ALL THE $USD MILLIONS you get on that country.

Just For EDUCATION purposes i will comment that yesterday i saw an Interview of Felix Sanchez with ESPN deportes, he said LITERALLY THIS:

"I don't run for Money! if i would have been looking for Money, I WOULD HAVE RUN FOR USA!"

and This one BEFORE the Gold Medal on Athens 2004:

"The USA is expecting DOZENS of medals, the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC is just expecting THIS ONE "

...Obviously because he's still Dominican and chose to represent the DR. Whenever people bring up this argument I can't help but feel it's a cheap attempt to try and negate successful Dominicans.

Concur 100%! . If he had represented the US instead of the DR, some of these clowns on this forum, would had called him a “sellout”. My kids are the second generation of “criollos de Santa Barbara”, who were born and raised here and they will not hesitate to tell you in English or Spanish (Yo soy Dominicano ).

But my problem with Dominicans is that if they have a new shirt , they will show it off to the entire neighborhood , yet forgetting where they are coming from .

At least Haiti had won GOLD in 1924 even before the famous first black ( Jesse Owens ) who's name not only made history but in so many books and documentary .
Haiti in those days was the best in the region, not Dominicans , hAiti was the first sometimes the only country in the country , I will send you something min your b0x so you get an idea .
