NEW YORK. - Six Dominicans were arrested Wednesday while allegedly trying to smuggle 330 kilos of cocaine in a fiberglass boat into Puerto Rico, said Police, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The federal agencies said the Dominicans Jairo Torres Balbuena, 29, Jose Manuel Rodriguez, 30, Anheli Regalado, 25, Berner Perreaux Balbuena, 38, Rey Jorge, 52 and Juan Polanco Rodriguez, 35, were arrested and charged with international drug trafficking.

In addition to the cocaine, the agents found one kilo of heroin aboard the small boat, whose occupants were arrested after a field test resulted positive for both drugs.

They added that U.S. agents were made aware of the boat’s presence, which prompted the Coast Guard patrol boat Matinicus’ interdiction.

with all the prisons in the DR full to overflowing , with Dominicans having the highest number of prisoners in the NY prisons, as a percenatge of the pop.there and with so many Dominicans being caught in boats drug trafficing ,,,the conclusion could be drawn that Dominicans make dumb criminals ....is that also a result of poor education .

And get a GED while in prison.

Rich,

With just 2% of PIB dedicated towards education, DR stands among the worst in Latin America in terms of education support. Even small nations have far higher investments in education.

Ata,
2% of the PIB is a complete disgrace and it is in conflict with the Constitutional edict. If only some Constitutional laws are enforced or respected, then none of the Constitution is valid. Don't think for a single second that pro illegal immigration advocates don't use these inconsistencies to their advantage by pointing this out when trying to circumvent citizenship or immigration laws. I know that no amount of money directed at education is assured a positive result but 2% is only enough for disastrous results and unfortunately that has been proven quite consistently.

Just imagine! Watching the Pablo Escobar series, one comes to the conclusion that the Lords are well protected and probably sharing the open social life with the rich and famous. Those who know them, maybe receive favors and "intelligently" look the other way. Yes, all of you are right, education plays a very important part, at home, at school and communitywise. Watch your kids!
