SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Government on Wednesday announced it will not host the Miss Universe 2012 pageant because it doesn’t have funds, in the heels of its austerity program and on the verge of a possible tax pact which will imply a cautious management of taxpayers money.

Presidency Administrative ministe José Ramón Peralta made the announcement in response to a proposal by event organizers on Friday.

The official said a commission of the event’s organizers led by its Vice president Andrea Berner visited the National Palace, to request an unspecified financial support of several million dollars to stage the contest.

"We have studied the proposal and finally, as we expressed during the visit by event organizers on Friday, the government isno’t able to assume a commitment, not because the competition isn’t important, it is, but now we’re in an austerity process and on the verge of a fiscal pact which prevents us from making financial commitments," Peralta told reporters in the National Palace.

"If the organizers want to stage the pageant in the Dominican Republic with private sector investment and their investment, welcome this event," he said of the contest slated for December.

More "Haciendo lo que nunca se hizo"!

What? Bending over for the foreigners carrying pieces of mirror.

Danilo does not care about "re-election" so he will do what's is fair for the Dominican Republica, llore quien llore. He does not care for their support later on.

Now, future Presidentes will be measured by the "Danilo Standards", and will pay the consequences if they deviate.

Consejito para los PPHachunos: Pongan sus huevos para el '20, porque el '16 es también de Leonel y el PLD!!!

Stop whining, coge pa'lante y manos a la obra!

8-)

* Gracias Dios, tenemos a Leonel, a Danilo, y a Margarita *

Good thinking, Pals. There are some more urgent things to do than the beauty pageant contest.

Furthermore, those beautiful ladies in DR, we "MAY" see some other Fernandez (guy who rape a young girl...lol)

I think there is more to story as the expense of hosting 100 girls and throwing a party in Punta Cana is peanuts in the budget. Something else was going on.

Lots of good news from Danilo in just two days:

"The 6 deputy ministers at the Ministry of Tourism
The Medina administration has been downsizing government and instead of dozens of deputy ministers, a common feature of previous administrations, it has appointed just six."

"President Danilo Medina has announced the creation of a new National Health Plan for the DR"

"President Danilo Medina has officially launched his new Literacy Plan, declaring that education is a basic right for the whole population."

along with this one

Is a step in the right direction. These private organizers and others like them want the government of the DR to shell out money so they can reap the rewards. Is like the tourism industry, they want the DR to spend millions on ads to bring in tourist, but who benefits from increased tourism? The resort and hotel owners. Is time the government of the DR stop subsidizing these and other events with the money of the Dominicans so the private sector organizers and owners can reap the rewards at the expense of the rest of society. Good job. Say no to the "Garrapatas". Because that's what they all are. The Garrapatas ( private sector) want the owner (Danilo) to feed the dog (the DR) good and nutritious food, but not for the sake of the dog but for their own sake of sucking its blood.

Wrong decision!

The DR spends, on average, 20 million dollars a year advertising it's tourism industry.
What better way to tell the world: "We're here, and somewhat queer. Come lay on our beaches and babes"..!!??

This pageant could be the best form of advertising our little banana nation, bar none!
How much can it possibly cost to run this show, eh??

I concur, this is not the time to do this kind of “dog and pony” BS. It is time to re-build and organize the country and prioritize our most essential needs (education, health law and order……)

Josie are you kidding me? Haven't seen a rearview of her but those legs, thighs and curves show she's gotta have something in the trunk. As far as being too light come on man! I thought you were Dominican. We don't look at color brother we notice shapes.
However we don't get rid of 2.5 million of the 3 million illegal Hatian brothers in our country within a generation our contestants will be 4 shades darker. Is that what you want? That our diversity turn into a black only homogeneous population?

If the DR spends 20 million on advertizing is 20 million too many. The DR needs to spend its money making sure the lights don't go out, the streets have no potholes, the garbage is picked up, that the resorts and hotels live up to the ads and propaganda, that criminals are put away. You can spend all the money you want advertizing a restaurant but once you eat there and the food sucks, you will not come back and no amount of advertizing will bring customers again. And the owner may ask, Why don't I get customers I spend all this money on ads? Hey! Is the food 3tupid!!

Knowing how corrupted the Dominican government is, It is difficult to believe thatt they cannot sponsor the event. Do they really lack the funds to cover the event? Is this another one of their tricks to get foreign aid towards the event and eventually end up in the pockets of the few (As usual)? The record of dishonesty is difficult to ignore and award any credibility to their outcry.
We are at far too many "The wolf is coming" with them.

Let the private sector pay for it if they think is going to be so good for them and leave the government out. The government has no business spending the peoples money so the private interest groups like the hotel owners, restaurants, car rentals, television stations can benefit and reap the rewards from this event. Is time the government steps back and let the rich take care of their business without the subsidies. That is part of what wrong in the DR, the rich want the DR government to hold their hand, to spend the peoples money and the profits go the the pockets of the rich and powerful. Let the tourism industry, the hotel and resort owners get together and fund this event since they are going to be the ones benefiting the most from it. Put your money where your mouth is.

Amen Chicharrony Presidente! It seems quite correct. Again, corruption is so chronic deep into their ways that it seems impossible to sort out the chronies bad apples. Everybody knows somebody. Everybody has somebody in some corner of government or another. It is repugnant to hear some Dominicans where I live celebrating and justifying as good the wrong doing of some officials . They even idolize these officials as "Monsters" "Baccan"?? "Grand"for robbing the system and getting cought. ....And Lord forbid anyone say something opposite. That who opposes their believes Dominican or not becomes an enemy of them and the STATE. I know a group from Vega. Call me sadistic for this but I go back again and again to amusse myself listening to their ACADEMIC LECTURES about Dominican corruption (A GOOD THING) so they say!!!! Pun! But true.

THERE WILL BE A BEAUTY PAGEANT IN DOM. REP.

The Miss & Mrs. Multiverse beauty pageant will be held in Dominican Republic on the 22 of November in Punta Cana, so there will be a beauty pageant in the lovely island after all. Amazing days of splendid sun and white sand beaches, with a fun group of beautiful international Misses & Models, in the renown spot of the Caribbean " Punta Cana Bavaro Beach"

This pageant highlights the Mirabal Sisters as example of power women.

I find this a great initiative --- this is the website--- mrsmultiverse. com

Your racist dispositions immediately lead you to believe that every comment has to do with race or Haitians. When I said she was "too(o the one I owe you) light" its referring to her build as it relates to the appearance of not having "enough junk in the trunk."

Money is like manure, you need to spread it around in order to make things grow. Although it's a noble gesture to suggest spending it on the welfare of the people, the one thing that most here fail to understand is that this world-wide telecast pageant is a BUSINESS like any other, and money for advertising must be spent, regardless.
With this telecast, we (DR), gets a huge bang for the dollar. It's not just us footing the entire bill, the promoters get to work setting and conducting the show, they also spend money. Lots of it!..Also many more additional tourists come over just to see this event and spend their money, too!. We provide the milieu and a few millions, but we get back lots of advertising and the intangibles, too many to count. ...To gain, one must spend. (invest).
I have a bit of a background in marketing. Not taking advantage of this very profitable opportunity, reflects on the one-dimensional train of thought typical of the DR government..Alas!
