Santo Domingo.- In what’s likely Dominican Today’s closest ever poll, the responses from its readers are split evenly to the question “Could Miss Universe be a wise invesment for DR?”
The response “Yes, a great boost for tourism” drew 1,110 votes, or 25.18%, followed closely by “Not likely, better look elsewhere,” whichdrew 1,107 votes,or 25.11%
In third place was the response “Maybe, if handled right,” with 1,102 votes, or 25.00%, and “Foolish at best” drew 1,089 votes, or 24.71% of the readers who took part in the weekly unscientific survey.

So only 25.18% believe that it will be a wise investment and almost 75% don't think it will.
How is that Split Evenly?

Of course it is... But they should do it in punta cana or Casa de campo, not in the mess of santo Domingo

If the freaking govt had an inkling as to what MARKETING is all about, They would have welcomed this pageant with open arms!!
There's absolutely no better and cheaper way to advertise our nation to the world than to hold a major event like this one, to which hundreds of millions of dirty old men,(like me), would tune in to ogle at!
It makes me so damned angry that some pinhead in govt would not appreciate/realize what a tremendous advertising plug-in this is for the tourism industry !....Who the f**k is in charge, and why can they not see the freaking obvious.?.!! cogno, malditos estupidos. Que clase de pensar es esta? Como es posible, que no entiendan lo maravilloso de esta oportunidad?..Y ya se perdio... Cabezas podridas.!!
Cogno, cogno, cogno.!! Come mierdas. Me averguenza ser Dominicano.!

Ron what you say is so true, marketing etc......I personally find these things corny and demeaning and laugh at people who like them as morons similar to those who enjoy wresting and watching novellas ....But when all is said and done it has the dollar value also about the dirty old men can you request they include mud wrestling ,pole dancing and wet T shirt categories

Tropical beaches are a dime-a-dozen. Whereas Dominican women are unique - best in the world.

Whatever works, Dreamkiller, There's an audience for just about any event under the sun. I didn't watch much of the Olympics but made an effort to check the beach volleyball competition. I haven't the foggiest who won, but I enjoyed it tremendously.
The same goes for the Miss Universe pageant, a major event in every definition. It's not just for men, but also women who tune in to check out the "competition", as it were.
Your suggestion to hold mud wrestling (naked), pole dancing, and wet t-shirt competitions should be a "must" show of pure womanhood held each June/July to celebrate the summer solstice.
Women from all over will compete in each category for a $50.000 1st-place price, with lesser amounts for 2nd and 3rd. This event can last up to a week, with "qualifying" rounds to eliminate the lesser cucas.! This event may, or even surpass, in attendance and popularity as the "running of the bulls" in Pamplona. We can call this one, "the running of the babes" What say you, eh?

I See no purpose of hosting this meaningless event, I actually now respect danilo medina for this decision not to host this crap. It shows that he knows that we have work to do and have no time to play dress up games for the ignorant american public . Lets spend some money on opening some schools and building some jobs for the public .

The amount of tourism and in investment during and the months after the event could of been hugemoungus and in good times.. Really bad idea of rejecting this opportunity..

If y'all want a brainless butt pageant, just walk down the street. 1 plastic surgically altered girl per country is not going to do that much for tourism. If you wanna get lecher dollars, the country and its businesses need to advertise just how many hot beautiful sexy and available women there are in the DR.

You have a good point, DaveB,
but how would you "advertise just how many hot beautiful sexy and available women there are in the DR"?
The Feminazzi hate Miss Universe pageants already - they would go ballistic over your suggestion!

Who's the girl on the left in the picture? She's cute, but a bit on the thin side unfortunately.

Ron you don't need a formal education to know what's attractive and what isn't. The girls in the photo look okay but in my humble opinion, do not have the physical characteristics that make the best Dominican women unique, and worth going half-way around the world to meet.

xwill7,
I have not seen any car-wash girls in the Dominican Republic, only ugly blokes wanting to smear my windscreen for a few Pesos. Where are they?
