SANTO DOMINGO.- U.S. Ambassador Raul Yzaguirre hailed as excellent the Dominican Government’s figth against narcotics trafficking, a recognition which comes in the heels of major drug busts.

"We are proud to find efficient allies (as the DR) in fighting drug trafficking and other threats," said Yzaguirre when delivering a Boston Whaler speedboat and other logistics support equipment worth US$1.4 million to the Dominican Navy.

He said the donation is evidence of the Washington’s commitment to cooperate in the fight against threats against both countries, such as drug trafficking, illegal travel and other criminal activities which endanger the maritime security of the two countries.

The U.S. ambassador said the Dominican Republic is the region’s first country to receive that type of boat. He said the U.S. relies on the Dominican Republic and in the ability of its Armed Forces.

For his part Navy chief of staff Edwin Dominici thaned the diplomat for the donation and called it a timely contribution and of great importance.

Also present in the activity were Armed Forces Minister Sigfrido Pared, the Presidency’s Antinarcotics advisor Marino Vinicio Castillo, Drugs Control Agency director Rolando Rosado, among other senior military officials.

I'd like to congratulate the country on the quantity and quality of "major busts" in general.

So, we got a great boat from Uncle Sam. Question is: what is Viet Nam going to do to match this gesture? Maybe they could send us good "salami", or possibly some of that fermented and most pungent fish sauce. Yeah, I do believe dominicans will take to the sauce.
