Santo Domingo.- In a surprising move, Justice minister Francisco Dominguez on Thursday asked the Supreme Court to review the corruption charges against senator Felix Bautista, noting that they couldn’t be filed indefinetly.
In a press conference, the official said he asked the high Court to revoke Anti- Corruption Dept. (DPCA) director Hotoniel Bonilla’s request #03,093, to halt prosecution in the case.
“To file and accept this as precedent and make it final when what is proper is a temporary filing means leaving a large window open to impunity, through mechanisms of complaints or frivolous complaints and responses from the Justice Ministry devoid of legal basis," Dominguez said.
He said only a judge can permanently revoke a file, not the chief prosecutor
Calling it “nothing personal,” against Bonilla, Dominguez affirmed that his decision is consistent with the criminal policy.
Bautista, the senator from San Juan de la Maguana province, has been accused of corruption in some of the most lucrative construction contracts while director of the State Works Engineers Office (OISOE), during the presidency of Leonel Fernandez.

If they officially indict and prosecute Felix Bautista, then we can say that Danilo is moving in the right direction. The problem is that Felix “kicked in” a lot of purple hats, t-shirts and free lunches on behalf of Medina’s campaign.

Josean the point that some of us are trying to make here is that many times you spoke in favor of having Hipolito as the president instead of Danilo because to you it was going to be all the same Narco-Landia Lionel people. So to sort of speak you wanted Hipolito to win which would it had been the second worst thing that would it ever happen to this country after Hipolito first term in office.

I don't find this surprising at all. Clearly Francisco Dominguez has been made aware that simply halting the prosecution as requested by Hotoniel Bonilla leaves the door wide open for further evidence or complaints to be lodged. If you read closely his comments in the third paragraph "through mechanisms of complaints or frivolous complaints and responses from the Justice Ministry devoid of legal basis" you can see exactly where he stands.
The resolution is for a judge to permanently revoke the file; so a judge will be appointed who will scrupulously review all the evidence, (as well as the contents of a large envelope included in the papers) and declare the corruption charges against senator Felix Bautista totally unfounded.
Caso cerrado! and no opportunity for further evidence or complaints in the future!
