Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic ranks 8th among 177 nations at most risk from the affects of climate change, says a study by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) released Thursday.
The USAID study says climate change begins to affect the country, and Haiti is the 6th most vulnerable.
In that regard, the Presidency’s Climate Change Office director Omar Ramirez said the government will spend more than 1% of the Budget to mitigate natural disasters resulting from climate change.
The USAID and The Nature Conservancy launched a media campaign to raise awareness among Dominicans on environmental conservation to prevent the effects of climate change.

I cannot find anything such on usaid.gov website, nor anywhere else...
I'm really confused. Probably because this article implies that the average RD person can do something to - as they put it - “prevent the effects of climate change” No one can “prevent the effects of climate change", for heavens sake, but they CAN help to stop the causes.
"...the government will spend more than 1% of the Budget to mitigate natural disasters resulting from climate change."
Umm.... Wut? This is a noble thought, and will no doubt save some lives in the short run, but this is treating symptoms on a small scale. When the seas rise, what are you going to do? Hand out paper cups to bail out the low lands? To where, the ocean? Did Katrina teach us nothing at all?
Yes it's a start, but it does not cost anything more to be more vocal and to adopt pressure tactics - I.E. be a leader. So start now and save a LOT of lives in the long run..
