Santo Domingo.- With one stroke of a pen  president Danilo Medina slashed the number of deputy ministers by more than 100 so far, appointing by decree only six deputy ministers in each of nine departments

According to media estimates and as some ministers have acknowleged, more than 300 deputy ministers had been designated in 20 ministries, but if the cap of six deputy ministers is applied, Medina would appoint only 126.

For government spokesman Roberto Rodriguez, the measure is an institutional transformation which the public perhaps has yet to notice.

When asked about the criticism on the recent government appointments,Rodriguez asked journalists to reflect on Medina’s appointments, since he has set a cap of six deputy ministers in each ministry.

He said the President has established specific roles for each deputy, a decision which in his view has repealed previous parameters.

The measures means a "stabilizes government bureaucracy" and sends a message to the public that only indispensable officials will be appointed.

Within the next few weeks we are sending a mission to the IMF to humbly ask them to bail us out of the financial mess that we are in.

It's amazing how if we do get the money, which we so desperately need, so many will curse the IMF for helping us.

Hey Josean and Basta why you guys just say well done Mr. President instead just try to find more problems that we all know that are there, I like a part in a book that called How to make friends and influence others, the part is when one American business goes to his steel factory because someone make a mistake and instead of firing that employee that because of his mistake will cost millions of Dollars in lost he promoted to head of that department to make sure that he doesn't make the same mistake or let another person do it. With this what I trying to say is that sometime you have to give possitive imput to the people so that they can do a better job and just criticize them because they wont feel like their effort is being appreciate it. Get it. Give Danilo time for god sake he has only been in office for about 3 weeks and he has already make some significants changes in the public administration compare to you that the only you do is criticize him.

The reason why six ministers are needed, is because of the territory of the DR, where as each individual sub-minister will supervise and be responsible for the specific area that he is assigned to.
So in the case of the sports ministry, the country is divided into six areas, and each sub-minister is responsible for his specific area.
So depending in the plus or minus specific population of the six areas, that the sub-ministers are assigned to, each one will be responsible for the sporting education and promotion of 10 million population divided by six= 1.666,666 inhabitants per assigned area.
One sub-minister could be enough in a much smaller country, or because of budget restrictions.

Your opinion is highly biased and boringly redundant. More so because you always assume a failure of our elected government, even before it has had a chance to commence. Your always half empty glass view, is an indication of a pessimistic and even depression prone mentality.
I would suggest you seek urgent professional mental help, or maybe get a job in a setting with no internet access.

We are ALL "biased" it just that few of us are Honest and Don't Hide it!

I guess the MAJORITY of our comrades at DT are also "BIASED" and Pessimistic too!

"Medina's choices don’t herald much change in Government"

"Santo Domingo.- More than half of DT readers don’t see much hope for substantial change in the Dominican Government, if gauged by president Danilo Medina's removals and designations in the various posts thus far.

When asked to “Rate President Medina's designations,” the response “As expected, same tired faces” drew 1,229 votos, or 60.57%, followed by “Great, should do a good job,” with 636 votes, or 31.35%.

The third most voted response was “ Not enough to rate so far” with 86, or 4.24%, followed by “Struck a balance, some old, some new” with 78 votes,of 3.84% of the readers who took part in the unscientific poll.""

I guess BIAS won almost 2 to 1!

Generoso...how is it then...based on your theory...that Canada has "ONE" deputy minster per ministry....covers a land mass 200 times bigger than the DR and a population density of 3.3 ppkm compared to the DR's 195 ppkm?

i think basically it means that most given the positions are not capable of the position. This country HAS TO SLIM DOWN. Without a diet, it is certain to lead to future (present) complications.

GENTS;

So far so good for three weeks.

How about tackeling the Military reduction, slashed it by half, officers and enlisted men?

That should be his next job,if he is looking for cuts. The remaining to be send to patrol the fronteer

on a permanent basis with all military acommodations for a soldier. as I once stated before.

That should give him plenty of money left for education, health, nutrition, housing for the poor.

If he needs more money ,slash it in half again.Use the military for national emergency rescue.

Start building professional police as promised under a civilian role not military as the present..

Hire more qualify teachers nationwide with a better salary.

Get his deputies, Senators, Governors from the Provinces, they are to reprresent ,since DR does

not have Provincial Elections, this would be the closest to a democracy.

The over-seas (ultramar) deputies as original thought of are not needed since this is a creation of

more BOTELLAS.

Hey guys he had already reduced the payroll to subministers and by ministers to 75% because it went from 20 plus to just 6, so I think the that is a good start.

To you Mr. MrThelmoAlmeydaRancier, there have already been talk about the amount of militaries that aren't doing nothing for which the head of the arms forces requested a head count to start slashing numbers, so please give the man a chance to even sit in office. Normally you give the guy 100 days before you make any account for he is doing or has done and 21 days is just not enough, Don't remember that in his first or second week in office we had a storm hit us which took a lot time of him from his office.

I wasn't advocating one way or the other, like Bernies said, any reduction is good, any way you look at it.
Maybe Canada, a developed country with a much more affluent and educated population, can get by with less, and I always advocate that less is more, but, in the DR the population has more need of bureaucrats and governments, because of the historic dependency of the less educated population, to look up to the government for direction and guidance.
Danilo is already breaking from the norm, and making drastic changes. He warned his ministers in the palace meeting, that everything is not going to be like it was in the old ways, with little transparency or accountability.
"You ain't seeing nothing yet"..... wait until 2013, to witness a real revolution.

Drastic Changes?...........with 70% of the old Palace guard still in place and Vincho double dipping.....isn't that a slight, slight exaggeration?

Or is it that we are so desperate for something new that the changing of the locks on the doors constitutes a revolution!

Danilo is going to put her in her place. know why? because, if he does what he plans to, and the people see some good of his efforts, they are not going to sit by and watch him get sabotaged. we could be in for some ugly demonstrations, if she tries to get in his way.

I hated leonel fernandez demagogy and narco friends and profit but...
For my nations sake, and from the bottom of my heart, I hope danilo will do a better jOb than him.
He needs the support of the whole nation and that includes other political parties.
Give the man a chance to work and prove his intentions and capacity to rule... It will be for the best of all of us!( including Haitians, that are so eager to see us fu&$ ourselves at least in this forum, then what for you guys?!?!).
Let's make a truce....
And I did not vote for him btw. Just to be clear( couldn't vote this elections).

I truly hope you gentlemen and ladies are right and I and the MAJORITY of the public at DT and in the COUNTRY are Wrong; but here is the current perception:

“Have the promises of transparency of President Danilo Medina Vanished?”

“Government of Medina has not spoken clearly about the magnitude of the crisis that it received from the Government of President Leonel Fernandez”

“If President Danilo Medina does not reveal the truth about the economic crisis he inherited from President Leonel Fernández, it would be wrong to ask sacrifices to the Dominican people.”

“The Government requires the support of society for its purpose of promoting a new fiscal reform, which could be obtained if it told the truth about the severity of the economic crisis that was generated during the administration of Leonel Fernandez.”

See the video at:

“ El tollo que Leonel le dejó a Danilo no es chiquito”

¿Se esfuman las promesas de transparencia del presidente Danilo Medina?
