MLB record ban on players roils Dominican Winter ball

Santo Domingo.- A record 66 Dominicans figure in Major League Baseball’s extreme fatigue list announced yesterday, signalling a major setback for the local championship.

The list of the names sent to the teams which allow players to compete in regional Winter seasons most affects the club that is precisely the Dominican and Caribbean champions Leones, with 18 players who’ll not be able to play prior to December.

Among the key names figure the catcher Carlos Santana, the pitcher Ivan Nova and outfielder Fernando Martinez.

Also hit hard was Los Gigantes of San Francisco, with starter Wilson Valdez and the prospect Jimmy Paredes also on the list.

The Tigres del Licey have 14 on the list, including Emilio Bonifacio and Erick Aybar and the pitchers Ubaldo Jimenez and Esmil Rogers.

A player makes the fatigue list when they reach the limits stipulated in the agreement with the winter leagues such as 160 innings for major league pitchers; 600 innings behind home plate for catchers and 502 turns-at-bat fpr infielders and outfielders.
