Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina received a group of senior military and police officers at the National Palace yesterday, some of whom with as many as 35 years of service, as part of a tradition of loyalty to the Head of State.

Army, Air Force, Navy and Police officials arrived in the Palace to greet the president, during the ceremony held in the Caryatids salon located on the third floor.

Medina greeted every officer, the president's official MC, José Guillermo Sued called each one by rank and years on active duty.

If Danilo is to continue with reforms and with the crackdown on corruption and lawlessness , he needs to have the senior military onside ,notwithstanding the fact that some of them may have been involved in corruption themselves. Danilo can not act alone and I expect this year we will be constantly reading of charges being laid against various public service people.

seems most have a loyalty to enriching themselves with drug dealings and renting soldiers as security. There is a out of proportionate number of generals and colonels to the number of actual troops. Save a bundle and cut the number by 75%
